FAQ: Slow Internet connection? Try this...

If you have a slow Internet connection, you might want to turn off user's signatures, avatars (the small pictures under every user's names) and/or image attachments. This should make the web pages quite faster. Of all of these, turning off the avatars should be the most effective for faster-loading.

To change these options, click here to access the Change Options page in your Control Panel, and look for 'Thread View Options'.

Are these new options, or did I just never notice them before?

Addendum: How much will turning off signatures really help? Text is pretty fast, I reckon.

Hey, at least its not part of the page. Theres some places I know where its actually best to do that, people have such big sigs.

I HATE it when people have like giant pics in their sigs.. grrr

Hi Marry, welcome to the site. I believe you can do a Google Image search for pictures that are "Icon" sized and upload them here as your avatar!

I thought custom avatars were a paying member privilege.

That's correct. We may change that policy, however I think that could be seem as disrespectful by those users who have previously contributed to APFFN. So right now only contributing users may have a custom avatar.
