Re: Drugaddiciones?

I'm just stating this, I'm new here, over the last couple years the people i've hung out with have been huge Floyd fans, they we're the ones that got me into them... and to us Pink Floyd & drugs went hand & hand... it was common knowledge that they did drugs. From their music, their booklets, their pictures, their refernces in their lyrics. It's so obvious to us, i figured most everyone thought the same. I come here and see that's not the case... I'll back off, you guys win.

Re: Drugaddiciones?

Well, if you're going to let us have it that easy . . . I have had friends that were Pink Floyd fans since back in high school. As much as we listened to Floyd, we never did any drugs. Besides, I think the music is so much more enjoyable and intriguing when one is of sane and sober mind. It's almost like having fun at a party where everyone else is drunk but you - in the end, you still had a blast but you are the only one who can remember any of it.

Re: Drugaddiciones?

I read an article this week where Gilmour said he and Syd tripped and smoked a lot and that he is fine and that Syd would have freaked out anyway. Generally, the other guys stuck to alcohol. There was far less drug use in PF than people think.

Got a shock reading an interview with Charlie Watts in the paper yesterday. He said that in the 80's he started smoking heroin but stopped when he realised that he was drinking heavily and smoking smack.

Bands like the Beatles, the Stones, Cream, Hawkwind, Sabbath etc took much more drugs than Floyd.

Just watched Careful With that Axe, Eugene at Pompeii, if you were to watch that with no knowledge of the group, you might believe that were high on something.

They're not allowed to put it on TV if it isn't true.

Re: Drugaddiciones?

Ok,
I have watched this thread a bit and well, I do have my own opinions to the stuff as well.
Pink Floyd did drugs. So what? I mean, what's the deal? There's no point in listing how much who took of which substance - what does it matter, in the end? What we've got is their music and that's about it. They don't have to be Mr Propers, do they? In fact, I don't really care too much about the habits of the inidividuals who stand behind the music I'm listening to.

What I can say to the listening experience. If I'm completely relaxed (and sober) and listen to the music it's great, but being high just eases yourself so you don't have to do as much to be relaxed (that means the access is a bit easier). Well, of course you don't always have to be relaxed to listen to the music, it is just more fascinating if you are.

And drugs? Well, the human being needs addictions of any kind (love, sex, chocolate, etc.)
