I have never agreed more with a statement on this website more than Riker's last one (but I will give up that I only registered a few days ago). Very well put.

A drugrelated band?

How can people, who doesn`t know psychedelic drugs by personal experience, even think they know anything about it? How much research do they put into it, before they decide what to believe?

Roger Waters wrote "Let there be more light". A part goes:"Lucy in the sky flowed". He is singing about LSD, isn`t he? Maybe Syd isn`t the only one who loved acid. Pink Floyd have given the impression of being a drugrelated band. Were they all faking it, except for Syd?

Guess I`m just feeling a bit surprised. I thought they were all a bit like Syd. He`s my favourite, you know. But I like the others, too, so I don`t want to diss them.

I've never seen seen a sexier eye on this website than Riker's avatar.

I don't remember who said it, but there's a quote that goes something like this:

'You don't have to have driven a motorcycle to talk about how they affect the world.'

I tried to make an astute comment at 4:30 in the morning, and it didn't come out right at all, so I just erased it.

Gilmour does not blame LSD for Syds breakdown. Why? He claims that he tripped with Syd many times and that he is fine himself (happily avoiding those that claim Syd ate the stuff like smarties while Dave was probably a weekend tripper). He also mentions that 'everyone ' was at it. Acid was extremely popular in the arts community and in the general population. I watched a Stones DVD from a concert in 69 last night and the trippers were very obvious.

I dont know why some of you are so hung up and straight that you wont admit that PF were influenced by psychedelics. I do know why really. You dont want any association with low gutter scum drug fiends or to admit that your favourite band took drugs. The only people that take drugs and are scum are those that steal, bash and rob to get money to obliterate all feelings. The arts has always had a large percentage of people that use drugs to change/enhance their consciousness and use that as inspiration.

I saw a survey nearly 20 years ago that estimated that if we weeded out all the drunks, potheads, trippers, opiate addicts and speed freaks that wrote classic literature, made magnificent paintings, flew fighter planes and wrote and performed the greatest music we would only have 30% - hang on, there is a glowing golden manta flowing through the wall and I might just push it back into the rainbow made up of all of the stars present in the multiverse at this time last Wednesday but strangely enough not now..... oooh, what is that? Buggered if I know but getting back to the point which is... Buggered if I know but getting back to the point which is... Buggered if I know but getting back to the point which is...Hang on, something weird is... Hate it when that happens. Feels like I am in the movie Roundlog Day (name , subject, script and actors may vary depending on which version of reality you think you are in) which is most amusing to watch but not funny when it is actually happening around you.....

Ummm, yeah.. oh that's it, dont worry if some loony arty person is frying their brain to make some piece of art just enjoy the art because many great composers, painters, fighter pilots, musicians and all night staff in the nightclub industry have taken drugs.

Dont think I am condoning LSD. Any supposedly brilliant revelation you have while tripping ie " God is actually a chair leg and he is on one of the chairs in this room. I am going to run about tipping people out of their chairs looking for him/her/it and to teach the bastards some respect" is always total crap. Anything worthwhile you think of while watching buildings made of icecream melting on to wobbling licorice roads you can think of while perfectly straight. I can think of no reason why anyone needs to go tripping.

Nevertheless, acid probably saved PF from the life of a fairly average blues band. It was the spark but became insignificant by the mid 70's. But that is acid. A big deal while you are young and a foolish waste of time 20 years later. It isn't worth the risk.

If anyone here is young and curious please dont take some backyard chemical concoction that is claimed to be LSD. You are risking your life and your mind and contrary to what you now think you are not invincible or immortal.

Yeah, just like with riding a motorbike, if you`re careful, there probably wont be any accidents. Reckless driving is another issue, and so is reckless use of drugs. It`s like that with most things, isn`t it? Take care!

Actually I have taken, consumed, or smoked the following drugs: lsd, marijuana, alcohol (in several forms, including 190 proof), cocaine, amphetamines, crack, vicadin, percaset, prozac. Some of this was experimentation, other times it was because I actually enjoyed (I have never been addicted to anything other than nicotine). I still don't consider PF a "drug" band. One of the reasons why, they got considerably better after leaving behind the "token" psychoactive element.

It'll never go away, I guess, but talk of whether or not Pink Floyd used drugs or not is just plain silly on the face of it. They were successful - and people with chemical dependency issues generally aren't.

A more valid question would be whether PF promoted the use of drugs. I am not aware of a single instance where the band did so.

Also, for what it's worth, I really wouldn't recommend talking about personal drug experiences in public forums such as this. The net is nowhere near as anonymous as you might think, and you might find yourself answering questions about it someday. If you ever want to work in law enforcement, the military, etc., and need a background investigation, you wouldn't believe what kind of stuff the FBI will dig up on you. Just my 2 cents, I've been there.

John Lennon had real LSD addiction, in some interviews i heard that he used to trip 3 times per day for 5 years. No wonder why Sid Barrett finished like that.
