New main page design and functionality

We have just updated our main page with a new design and a whole new back-end. It should be MUCH faster (according to my tests, around 3-6 times faster) than the old one. Since it is one of the main pages people access, the old one drained a lot of system resources, which made serving of pages really slow. So you should see an increased speed on serving of all of our pages.

Please notice we are still beta-testing this new main page, so we would appreciate if you could pease let us know if anything weird or odd happens. Hopefully we will be adding some more stuff on the main page as days go by.

Well, I think I preferred the page with the list of posts since my last visit, 'cause you could click on the symbol and jump to the last post of the thread, instead of having to open the 1st page and then jump to the last one...

This new version definitely loads a lot quicker! I agree with Hicks, I liked the "new posts since your last visit" bit on the other one.......good job though.

Well, that and the buddy list are going to be implemented as soon as I can. I miss them as well! Thanks for your thoughts!

Ok, I just implemented the "Search for new posts", all you have to do to use it is click on the "x new forum posts" right on the welcome box.

I don't notice any difference in page-loading though, but it could just be my crappy connection.

I am on a high-speed connection, so the difference is readily apparent to me. Thank you very much.

I like the new system P. Can we get the girls back now? Incidentally, because the boards are such an integral part of the site, perhaps you might want to make the link to them on the front page just slightly more apparent.

Also, I often made use of the link to all New Posts Today whenever I needed to review threads already read but not new. Now, once I have marked all read, there's no going back.

Still, if it cause hassles with loading speeds, I can surely live without it.
