TDB only reaffirms the fact that Pink Floyd is not afraid to test new boundries and follow their own ideas and sounds. They are not dictated by whether an album goes platinum or shows up on some "pop" chart, they only care that they like it and felt it worthy for release. That is enough for this Floydian.
After a heavy night of partying, TDB is a great cd to pop into the headphones and drift off to.

Honest to god I LOVE supertramp... not the same way I love Floyd but they are the second most played band in my house. I had no idea Gilmour ever worked with them..

I believe Gilmour played guitar on one of the Supertramp solo albums.

I don't like TDB (and aMLOR) but it's not because I'm a roger fan who's angry because he wasn't on the albums. I just don't like the songs, I don't think they're great. but as I've always said, the first time I heard the post Waters Floyd I tought it was horrible and the more I heard it, the less I hated it. last time I heard TDB, I even found myself thinking sometimes "hey, that's kinda catchy". Maybe one day I will appreciate the albums...maybe not.

Re: I don't see what the problem is with The Division Bell...

the first time i listened to The Division Bell I only got through the first three songs before i took it out in disgust and put in wish you were here. a few weeks later however, i gave it another chance. i think the biggest problem for most people is that other floyd albums grab u right away(the heartbeat and mumbles of dark side, the bombast of the wall, the delicate sadness of wish you were here, etc.) the division bell however takes a few songs before you find yourself intrigued. I personally enjoy the album, its great to chill out to.

It really like TDB, it may not be in the same vein as previous albums but then thats never really been an issue before, compare animals to SOS for example.

found this review on Amazon, don't say I agree completely but it is funny

Apparently, Gilmours wife isnt a very good writer, October 28, 2005

Reviewer: Brad King (Irvine, CA, USA) - See all my reviews

Roger Waters, the creative genius, couldn't take the non-stop crybabying from David Gilmour and Rick Wright who never seemed to have anything to contribute and so he left Pink Floyd. So, with all the talent gone from the band all that was left were the three Ringo's of the band.

So, Gilmour did all he could do....beg his wife, Polly Samson, to try to sound like Pink Floyd and write lyrics. Well, she tried and the result was this album.

It's bad folks......REAL bad.

Buy Animals, buy The Wall, buy The Final Cut, but for heaven's sake do not buy this awful, awful album. It is just a cardboard epitaph to a great band that stopped being great when the genius behind the band left in 1983.

The only purpose of this album is to make more money for David Gilmour which he is obviously using to buy cheeseburgers.

Re: I don't see what the problem is with The Division Bell...

Easily TDB contains some of Gilmours finest guitar and a great song by Rick Wright, Wearing the Inside Out, but simply whats wrong with it is that it is nothing more than an entire album related to whining about that big bad meanie Roger.

Not to mention Dave couldnt string together a decent set of lyrics with coherent theme (for one song let alone a double friggin album-- see the Wall) to save his life. His wife/girlfriend, whatever had to help him out. what an embarrasment. and it still sucked. Maybe his best lyric post-waters is learning to fly -- about flying a friggin airplane. Youve got to be kiddin me.

Compare that with anything from the wall, wish you were here, the final cut or animals. talk about having nothing to say.

To close around the period of the breakup of the band Roger had this to say about Dave, "I like working with musicians that are inspired and inspiring,. . . Dave is none of these things," you said it Rog. Hammer, Hammer, HAMMER, HAMMER!

But what standard should Dave be held to? The current state of music (I too agree that its far better than anything nowadays) or the standard of the name that he fought to keep going. Is this what he was fighting Roger for?

I'd hold him to the standard of the name he fought to keep going, it only makes sense.

then do you feel that TDB is at the same standard as WYWH, Wall, TFC or Animals?
