| Re: I don't see what the problem is with The Division Bell... I bought the DB CD the moment it went on sale back in 94. I especially love the instrumentals, Cluster One & Marooned. Wearing the Inside Out is a great song. I also esp. like Lost For Words and High Hopes. I concede the lyrics are not the greatest, but the songs sound good to me.

| Re: I don't see what the problem is with The Division Bell... I agree completely. I downloaded the entire DB album as a single file, and I love it. I think it's better than sonce of the stuff they did with Rog. 'What Do You Want From Me?' and 'High Hopes' are two of my favorite songs now. Say what you want, this will always be one of my favorite albums.

| Re: I don't see what the problem is with The Division Bell... I have maintained all along (look in many other threads around here) that Daves guitar work on "Coming Back to Life" is, In My Opinion, the best he's ever recorded. It is simply an amazing piece of work. I have struggled for years trying to master even parts of it.. Time, Money, SOYCD, Dogs, Pigs are all fairly easy by comparison. Now Dave is no lyrical giant compared to Roger, but who the hell IS? Roger has a gift (albeit a single minded one) (Did you know Rog lost his Pappy in the War?). He ranks in the world of lyricist much the same as Hemmingway, Poe or Stevenson in the world of authors. To denegrate Dave for not measuring up to Rog's standards is unfair and uncalled for. Could any of you write...... Can you see your days blighted by darkness? Is it true you beat your fists on the floor? Stuck in a world of isolation While the ivy grows over the door How about...... The rain fell slow, down on all the roofs of uncertainty I thought of you and the years and all the sadness fell away from me And did you know... Or maybe..... I will, I will she sighed to my request And then she tossed her mane while my resolve was put to the test Then drowned in desire, our souls on fire I lead the way to the funeral pyre And without a thought of the consequence I gave in to my decadence Lighten up guys.... Oh yeah.... I like the Division Bell.

| Re: I don't see what the problem is with The Division Bell... Jim was the first to do the whole love/funeral pyre thing. The time to hesitate is through No time to wallow in the mire Try now we can only lose And our love become a funeral pyre Or were there others...Hmmmm.

| Re: I don't see what the problem is with The Division Bell... Quote:
That's as may be, but it lacks any kind of emotional intensity and fails to convey anything other than merely proficient playing. Compare this with the soaring JL Seagull of the first solo on Comfortably numb and how it effortlessly runs you through the cornfields of your youth or deflects the rainy days of the remembrances of childhood. Now come back to life. Yes, his playing on TDB is acceptable, maybe even a little bit inspired, but it ain't anything more than that. In My Opinion.

| Re: I don't see what the problem is with The Division Bell... Guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I find his playing on TDB as inspired and emotional as anything he's done. Maybe not the emotions that you may be looking for, but they reach me none the less.

| Re: I don't see what the problem is with The Division Bell... TDB is worth the price of admission for Marooned and WtIO, alone. Every time I listen to WtIO, I get chills. From Rick's great vocals to David's tasty guitar fillers - this song is as good as anything any of the Floyd have ever written - solo or together! ![]()

| Re: I don't see what the problem is with The Division Bell... Unfeasably, it has turned out to be the fan's sleeper choice on the album. Which is weird.

| Re: I don't see what the problem is with The Division Bell... High Hopes is an exceptional song, I'll give you that. It ranks among some of the best, lyrically and musically. Frankly, it's better than anything off AHM or Umma, but otherwise the album is disappointing to my ears.
