I don't see what the problem is with The Division Bell...

Now, I am pretty new here, but I own damn near everything Floyd ever made, and I rather like the division bell. By reading your comments, you sound like you guys don't. What's the big deal?

I thought that the awesome part about PF is that they have evolved over time, so they almost cover every music stlye that is worth listening to.

The Division Bell is mellow, and serves as great music to sit around and chill with.

Help me out here....

I quite like TDB too , it's a great improvement on AMLoR that's for sure (although I don't have a problem with that either really).

Most of the people which don't like TDB actually are Roger's fans who just don't accept the band without Rog.
I love that album.

Hmm. I am a huge Roger fan as well as a huge fan of big Dave, and I must say DB is a damn good album. It's much more Floydian than the preceeding 4 albums, sans Rogers lyrics of course.

Yeah, Dave's lyrics can be a bit toe curling at times I'm afraid.

Count me as a big Rog fan but an appreciator of TDB too.
(ATD is better anyway, imo at least)

Toe Curling? What does that mean? And before you answer, are you one of those Roger fans who like Waters more than Pink Floyd?

Toe curling = embarrassing (as in gripping your toes into the carpet while gritting your teeth).
And no I'm not one of (solo) Roger's biggest fans, although ATD is excellent, I've always prefered Dave.

Didn't realise you liked DB Kev.

I agree, the music on DB certainly harks back to the softer, more mellow floydian times. Unfortunately it lacks the same impact without the thought-provoking lyrics contained within Meddle, Dark Side and WYWH.

I would say the same thing about his music, but for vastly different reasons, of course.

Sorry about that.

Cheers!

Re: I don't see what the problem is with The Division Bell...

Second dissenting voice, I'm afraid.

I'm a Gilmour fan - GW#1 gets it in one - and I'm a Waters fan, and a Rick and Nick fan. That's MY optimum Floyd recipe and anything besides is, to me, small beer. I need BIG beer.
Boys on Film: "Hated it."

p.s. I certainly can agree there are moments in TDB and AMLOR harking back to a Floydian past, of course, as well as new moments of musical ability. But for me, no. Not Pink Floyd.

Re: I don't see what the problem is with The Division Bell...

If Dave were to play the riff to 'Wish you were here', but rename it 'Packet of Skips', it couldn't be more appropriate.

Right?

Re: I don't see what the problem is with The Division Bell...

I personally enjoy TDB...it is very mellow as you say, and it is certainly an album I listen to frequently. As for lyrics, I think half the issue that some have with lyrics is that they are comparing to Mr. Waters, who is, of cource, BRILLIANT. Very few lyricists at all can reach that calibre of writing. So even good lyrics can look quite pale indeed next to work of the stature of Mr. Waters'. I'd say TDB's lyrics are certainly way better than what dominates the "pop" scene today!!!
