| This is my first post - I'm so glad to have found a community of Floyd fans to talk to! So much stuff to get off my chest! Anyway, I've noticed a curious thing: there are elements from previous Floyd albums, scattered all through The Wall. I haven't spotted them all, but I have a great memory for music and have noticed: * heartbeat from DSOTM all through "In The Flesh?", beginning at "so ya.." * creepy guitar riffs from Echoes included in "Is There Anybody Out There?" at 0:44 * laugh from "Brain Damage" included in "Waiting For The Worms" at 2:34 * ping from Echoes in "Hey You", after "and the worms ate into his brain" Were the Floyd just saving time by sampling their earlier works, or is there some deeper meaning to all of this?

| Re: Elements from other albums in The Wall They are not the same. Listen to them side by side... they sound totally different. I know for a fact that the Floyd never "sampled" their own work. A great deal of time was spent creating the sound effects and musical flourishes on The Wall.

| Re: Elements from other albums in The Wall In the movie the teacher read one of Pink's "poems" in classroom, to poke fun at him, and it is part of Money lyrics. But I guess you already noticed it Rollerblind Eye. Btw, Welcome

| Re: Elements from other albums in The Wall I had certainly noticed a few of those things. The "ping" effect from Echoes is also used on Roger Waters' Amused To Death. I've also noticed a few of the well known riffs from guitar solos on The Wall first appeared in Dave Gilmour's solo album a year or two earlier. I guess once you find a sound effect that is really effective it is hard to use it just the once. I don't think there is any deeper meaning, or "intertextuality" as the academic world would call it. Welcome to the site BTW.

| bask in the shadow of yesterday's triumph According to the author Nicholas Schaffner, the song "Goodbye Cruel World" is based on a riff from Barrett's "See Emily Play". |

| Re: Elements from other albums in The Wall The riff from the Hey you solo (2:01-...), i think is used again on Waiting for the worms ending (2:55-...). Anyone notice that too? And some parts from Run like hell remind me of Sheep. Maybe it's the guitar riff that starts at 0:23. |

I laughed at that part. Its funny when you read out lyrics in a monotone. Especially when a child writes lyrics like that from the 40's. |

| Re: Elements from other albums in The Wall Yeah, thats funny about the kids lyrics in the 40s! And, in Roger Waters Pros And Cons of Hitchiking, the opening riff of "In The Flesh" is used at the end of the song before the "Pros n Cons of Hitchiking" song.... I thought that was pretty cool myself.

That I have. Consider it an easy one or whatever, was the first Floyd riff I learned too... |

| Re: Elements from other albums in The Wall The chord progression in "Welcome To The Machine" from WYWH is strikingly similar to that of the begining of "Empty Spaces" Also, the music from Another Brick, part II can be seen a few times throughout the album, particularly during the judge's speach during The Trial.
