well, you really have to take into consideration that Queen was recording their first album in '73 and had only really formed around '70, Pink Floyd had been around a little bit before '66 (when they recorded their first) and had since then made somewhat of a name for themselves, especially with Meddle two years prior. Regardless of the mega-popularity of Dark Side, the Floyd had a bit of a name before hand, so, the money issue is a factor. I mean, similarly, you could compare the recording of Piper at the Gates of Dawn and Sgt. Pepper's. Recorded same year, same studio. Also...production...PF had Alan Parsons, Queen had...who...Roy Thomas Baker?

Just a thought

Yeah. Suppose your right although I can't seem to judge the Piper, Pepper thing cuz I have a real CD of Piper and an MP3 of Pepper. The hiss on Piper annoys me sooooo much!

hiss?

Also, one of my favourite things by Queen was the untitled instrumental at the end of Made In Heaven. Kind of like a trip to the afterlife and what not. Very eerie with the sound bites of Fred stuck in odd places. Not to mention, I dig the cover photog with the view of Lake Geneva.

Wow man. You think just the same as me!! I think (well this is really personal to me) that this could be Freddie's journey to heaven. It is a great way to finish such a wonderful album.

About the hiss... Don't you notice in the quite parts of the album? All this background noise, typical for that day but it really annoys me!

Was that instrumental untitled? I thought it was called Made in Heaven (dead).

I am pretty sure it is a hidden track. I don't think it has a name. What's up with track 12? ......... 'Yeh'.... Track 13........

Yeah...when I first got that cd, after the last song it became so quiet that i turned it up really loud, then i went back to the first hidden track...a big "Yeah" nearly gave my poor mother a heart-attack.

Queen were my first love. A lot of their albums have tracks that are just there to make up the numbers or that were never developed as fully as they shoulad have been (compare live versions of Love Of My Life to the album version...). and before i mention bohemians rhapsodys greatness go listen to Rock It and Sail Away Sweet sister from The Game. If i was to make a list of me top 20 tracks of all time there would probably be more queen in there than floyd, and belive me i LOVE the floyd. and as for Freddie Mercurys brilliance, try and sing Bohemian Rhapsody the next time you are in a pub with karaoke.... im certain he must have had a clamp round his plums to reach those high notes.....

just my tuppenece worth,
VV

and for those who think roger waters has a an obsession with death here are some interesting queen song titles:

All Dead, All Dead
Another One Bites The Dust
Chinese Torture
Dead On Time
Death On Two Legs
Don't Lose Your Head
Don't Try Suicide
Execution Of Flash
Killer Queen
Pain Is So Close To Pleasure
Sheer heart Attack
The Hitman

and for a little sexual innuendo try Staying Power and Flick Of The Wrist...

well, most Queen lyrics were a lot more light-hearted than Rog Waters'.

I was never much into Queen. Brian May is a decent guitar player but.....I'm not slamming them, they did some good stuff....Maybe it was Freddie's overbite.
