| Chinese Torture is funny but doesn't necessarily make of good old Brian May the greatest guitarist alive... very good and creative, yes, but hardly the best.. Well, to each their own and blah blah. |

| I haven't posted here before because I have been attempting to be a Pink Floyd fan here at good APFFN, but having just closed a DDT on Queen, and read through these five pages, I am now posting. Now, because I seem to be the only one who's posted who has actually seen Queen, bean, lean, sheen Live. It was at The Forum in Los Angeles in '83 or '85 (I think it was'83) and my boyhood chum from Compton and I had the devil of a time trying to find some LSD in L.A. for the show. Oh, everybody had cocaine and crack but I would respond, "No, I don't want that shit. Where can I get some LSD?" They barely even knew what I was talking about; further proof to me that the gangs of L.A. are brainless twits, twats, even. Having found suitable substances, eventually after much searching and driving round and round, we parked up at the Forum and smoked a couple doobies and dropped our purple barrels (two each - this would later turn out to have been too much; we were awake for hours after) before the show. What can one say: they were brilliant. Freddie was as always the consummate showman and Brian, the fabulous axeman didn't disappoint and, of course, it would not have been as good without the talents of John and Roger. I didn't much care for the leather gay man look Freddie had begun to sport (no, Flughum, he didn't have a cute black cap either), but otherwise it was a very memorable event. The worse thing was a huge spotlight that would blast the audience with light throughout the show and at the finalé blasted my highly sensitive pupils to buggery. Why am I seeing stars? My best mate who'd never actually been to a rock concert before was beside himself with excitement and needed much bringing down for the rest of the night, and I was not a little impressed with the band myself. We parked up on a hill at Griffith Park - our normal haunt - (home of the famous observatory featured in "Rebel Without a Cause" and other flicks) - overlooking the lights and illuminated life of the city below, swigging Olde English 800 Malt Liquor (we were idiots), toking "J-rods" and reminiscing about the concert. Fab times. Marks out of 10: 9/10 (1 deduction for the painful spotlight) Remember kids: Just say "no". |
