Sound Quality On Animals

Does anyone notice that the sound on Animals is not that good? I'm not sure what the vinyl sounds like but on the CD version, it sounds really flat and dull. Can't really describe it. You first notice is on the first crash cymbal on Dogs and then it goes on all through the album. It's in the long songs. Pigs On The Wing 1+2 are alright.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Which edition do you have? The first one has very poor sound quality, the remastered one is dramatically better.

I have the remastered definately. The blue disc. It almost sounds like it is over compressed. I really don't know.

Well, Animals was the first album that Pink Floyd recorded in their own Britannia Row recording studio. From what I've heard, when the studio was first built, it didn't have very good acoustics... hence, there may be a loss of sound quality from the studio's set-up.

The tapes were also very worn on those long tracks from all the overdubs they made on the new 24-track machine, so the drums at times sound a little dull. They found a way around that for The Wall.

I think that they deliberately went for a rougher sound. Check the year, kids

This is probarly it. I have listened again and it's the drums that are bad quality.

Can you believe the quality of The Wall? It's amazing for 1979! :o

They used the revolutionary method of recording the drums onto one tape machine and copying it onto another machine, upon which they made all the overdubs so the originals wouldn't get all worn. Nobody thought it would work.

Hmm, well I am not a picky person, so I can barely tell, the only thing I care about is how loud the speakers are, , none of that Sony bull.

Infinity, Infinite? I'm not sure how it goes, but my uncle has them and they damn near blow me away when I visit his house. Speakers I have suck (Sony) But I want to get new one's as soon as I get enough money, and jeez they do cost a lot. My Uncle said he payed 1800$ for his set.

Bose truly are the best I've experienced.

Not saying they are the best, but only the best I've actually got to sit down and listen to.
