I think we can safely conclude that the gunner's dying words were (paraphrased) "Oh, shite!!"

I understand "The Final Cut" is also a dig at Alan Parker.

Roger on the album sleeve is wearing a military jacket with a meat cleaver in his back and is holding film cans. The Final Cut is what they call the final film all the copies will be made from for distribution. The Final Cut is also a saying for being stabbed in the back.

So I think in addition to what has already been mentioned, I think it's also a not so subtle jab at Parker.

I think that is a good point. Waters and Parker were at each others throats during the filming and production of the movie "The Wall".

Roger doesn't forgive easily; he loves to skewer his enemies publicly.

It's always funner to publicly harass your enemies than privately!

Especially when you have the whole world as your audience.

Ooh, that's poetry.

Actually, "The Final Cut" is one of my favorite Floyd songs ever, but I have a very odd taste in music for your average Floydian. It has always, however, bugged me that Rog seems to be rehashing Comfortably Numb. (the "hallucination" reference; the same orchestral sound in the background)

Still, it's IMO, a good song. Must include the IMO or I'll get the pacifist thrashing.
