...besides Floyd.

I think "Spirit" is one.

Randy California was a great songwriter and he had a great supporting cast. They jam with the jazz, psycadelic, blues - rock!

The only song I hear on the radio by them is "I got a line on you". and that song is very poppy and not as good as the other tunes they do, like "Mr Gramaphone" "Groundhog Day" Fresh Garbage"
Mr Skin" wooooo

I think king crimson is underrated -- i'm not sure. I think they're credited with inventing progressive rock.

I would say, King Crimson is one. YeS is another, Supertramp and ELP I would say are the four most underrated bands of the 70's, well that I know of anyway.

King Crimson, Yes and ELP could not be underrated, they were (and are) considered the progressive rock top groups and inventors (along with Genesis), and they had a big commercial success too. The underrated ones are those who contributed but nowadays are hardly mentioned, such as Procol Harum, Nice (that are in fact the first incarnation of ELP, but they early works are not known), Moody Blues, Family, Colosseum, Traffic...
And many others in the very beginning of the 70s were good as KC, Yes and Genesis but never had their success: VDGG, Soft Machine, High Tide, Camel, Gentle Giant, Caravan...

I'd also say Quicksilver Messenger Service, as well as Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Status Quo.

ok guys, I see you don't agree with me. ELP were definitely not underrated, they had a huge commercial success... and not really deserved probably.

Ummm....actually ELP's bestselling album cannot hold a birthday candle to the least selling Pink Floyd album.......
And I happen to think ELP is just as good, or maybe better, than P.F, but just my opinion!!!

Well I wasn't around until '84 but most of the music I like is 60's-70's oriented. I think Humble Pie is quite under-rated along with Three Dog Night. They had some sensational hits. I also think Fleetwood Mac is too. I don't know why, but they're one of the best out there IMO. Definitley some powerful, upbeat "in your face" type songs, and Lindsey Buckingham is a genious of a guitar player.

Cheers
