Question cymbaline 10-17-71

i was just listening to this and in the middle of the song there's a brief break where there's no music but you can hear someone walking around on stage and the audience cheering occasionally, sounds like something is being acted out possibly, anyone know what's going on?

I wondered about that too...and then the music starts again and everyone cheers...maybe the band just stepped out to go to the bathroom?

Re: cymbaline 10-17-71

That would be the infamous "tea break." The whole show was a concept piece called "The Man and the Journey" in two halves, each consisting of pre-existing Floyd songs strung together by the band to tell a story. One half ("the man") was supposed to represent a day in the life of an everyday man... and at "Teatime" the band actually stopped playing and were served tea in front of the audience.

Oct. 17 is my birthday, by the way... I guess I turned negative-fifteen when they played this show.

Edit: Wait a minute! The Man And The Journey were in 1969, not 1971. Perhaps the recording is mis-labelled.

Second edit: It's definitely mis-labelled. The band were at a release party on October 17, 1971, debuting the Legendary Fabelled Long Lost Quad Mix Of Meddle for those lucky press members.

The middle part of Cymbaline live was basically a chance for the Floyd to show off their quad sound system. They would take sound effects (most memorable being the footsteps), and bounce and pan them all around the hall.

Hence, probably, the applause you're hearing.

I think the proper date is 10/17/70 not 71 from a roio called Peperland in the West.
