According to "the Pink Floyd Encyclopedia" (which has an extensive coverage on which musician who played what on the different albums, although I don't think it is correct all the time) Roger didn't play any guitar in the final mix on "Pigs" or "Hey You". (Of course he played rhythm guitar on "Pigs" live). According to the same book, David played bass on more than half of the songs on "The Wall", particularly on the second half of the album. But that doesn't say that Roger sucks on bass, I still think he is great. Actually I think all five of them are great.

Also, and most importantly, where were you when I said that and I quote "And Im not taking anything away from David's playing, because he is my favorite guitar, one of the best ever if you ask me" How is it that I'm hating Dave again? Before you accuse me of being anti Gilmour, you should have read my other post. So I am obviously NOT one of your so called "anti Gilmour people", but I am, however, offended if he really did say that Roger isnt a good musician. Thats just not the case, and a very juvinile thing to say.

Whoa there buddy! I never said Roger was a bad musician. I was not even involved inthis conversation until I read the bullocks about Dave not writing anything. That was a dumb statement. Do a little more research before you say what Dave did not or did write. You look stupid when you just babble away....

Re: Gilmour the Floyd Bassist???

Roger played acoustic on a fair bit of songs too! Why isn't that making big news?

I find it ridiculous to still be examining such old news. So what if Gilmour picked up a bass now and then? Waters didn't mind. His game was, and still is writing.
The fact that Gilmour played bass on the odd song is a wonderful fact that there was some comradery back then.
Rick Wright used to tune the guitars way back when... Big deal!
They all played the synth on DSOTM, does this fact belittle Wright???
I think digging up the ghosts like this subject is pure anti-Waters ammo, and I just don't care for it.

And his acoustic playing is really shit. Hence the Dark Side of the Moon dvd per example. And yes his game is writing.

I agree with you to a great extent, but I think it's fun trivia to know who played what instrument on what song. I think in a strange way it's interesting to know that David plays bass on "Pigs", Roger plays clarinet on the live version on "Outside The Wall", Nick sings on "Scream Thy Last Scream" or Rick plays trombone on "Biding My Time".

But someone in this forum seems to think that Roger isn't capable playing bass because David helped him out one some tracks, and that's bollocks. Others around here seems to think that David isn't capable to make a great album when Roger doesn't write the lyrics, and that's bollocks as well.

Re: Gilmour the Floyd Bassist???

leave Roger alone. David is just a god with a guitar, any kind of guitar. take your choice of bassist and throw him in with Dave and I assure you Dave can get some sounds out of that bass that the bassist cant.

but to play devils advocate you dont hear too many complex and interesting bass lines on Rog's solo stuff. nothing like Hey You or Pigs, thats for sure

but once again we come to the same conclusion -- "The whole is better than the sum of the parts" . . . or something like that

After Obscured By Clouds, Roger did all the main writing.

Fighting about who's the best musician, who wrote what, who's an asshole...and all that anti-gilmour, anti-roger thing is very silly. They all have their talents and together they make something that no words can possibly explain. Why not just shut the hell up and enjoy the wonderful music the best band in the world gave us?
