Gilmour the Floyd Bassist???

I was reading some guys review for meddle on pinkfloyd.net and he mentioned briefly that Dave Gilmour played bass for Roger on the Floyd Albums because he was more of a proficient bassist.......he claimed that roughly 90% of Floyd's bass playing was done by Gilmour on their albums......is there any truth to this??

Yes, it is true - maybe not 90%, but he played quite a bit of the bass on records, so I hear.

Hmm, wow never knew that. I heard somewhere that Dave does not get credit for a lot of the songs he helps in writing.

Actually, through the same journalist I have mentioned elswhere on this site, I know that David Played Bass on the following:

First Bass on 'One of these Days' (there are actually two double-tracked) Rogers comes in second

"Sheep"
"Hey You"
By all accounts there are many more as well...

I'll try and find out and update.....

Many more, actually. Have A Cigar comes to mind. There's a couple of threads somewhere discussing the subject, anyway.

Essentially, although it is something of a generalisation, any playing that isn't just keeping rhythm is probably David, as opposed to Roger.

Yeah, there's no way Roger played the funky bass in Pigs (Three Different Ones).
