Fearless

Fearless, This is by far one of my, if not my favorite Pink Floyd song. Though was wondering if I could get some clarification on this on it. I have my own interpretation of this song where in the first verse it talks about, "climb that hill in my own way, just wait awhile for the right day." this is actually the viewpoint of the fearful man, whereas in the second verse, "climb, in your own way, and everyday is the right day" if coming from the fearless man......I love this song and I was wondering for those of you who have the Floyd encyclopedia what it has to say about it

Re: Fearless

The song is about the struggle to achieve against overwhelming odds that threaten to drag you down. The notion of time passing, the soundless struggle of man's journey and the tragic decline of Syd Barrett. The lyrics were inspired when the band listened to old tapes of Barrett's 'Vegetable man' and 'Scream thy last Scream' leading up to the release of Relics.

The lyrical theme of the song is that of a contented fool whose mind is apparently somewhere else when the judgement of his peers descends on him from on high. nevertheless, "fearlessly the idiot faced the crowd" and he is spurred on by the humanity of the people who love him - at which point the 'Kop' chorus comes in singing "You'll never walk Alone".

One of my favourites as well. Awesome song that I loved from the first time I heard it.

Re: Fearless

Yes. I'd have to concur. A brilliant song, bested only by the lengthy episodic bombast of 'Echoes'.

I've always thought the fearful person was the one the narrator was talking to. And that the narrator says that he'll climb in his own way, on the right day, and he'll "hear the sound of the things you've said today" means he's thinking back on what the person thought before, triumphantly. Kinda like a "take that, I did it" sort of attitude.
