Counting down: 6/ Simon Phillips. 5/ Neal Peart. 4/ Keith Moon. 3/ Carl Palmer. 2/ John Bonham. 1/ Mike Portnoy. Sorry Bonzo but your crown has finally been taken. Dream Theater has quite possibly got the best skin beater ever heard....

Well, there's Neil Peart, and then there's Neil, and we can't foget about Peart.... Thanks for the link Hicks, but any poll of "Best Drummer" that doesn't include Sir Neil probably deserves to be buried just where it is....

I like your list, but Carl Palmer can kick Neil's BEHIND any day! But yes, Neil is excellent, and I saw him in concert, he had a drum solo, it was INCREDIBLE! I had my binoculars to make sure no bull was going on, but it was all real, just incredible.

The thing is, whenever we make these comparisons, its always based on musicians playing their OWN music. What woul be V interesting would be to watch them play the SAME piece of "neutral" music and obsevrve their strengths weakneses and different interpretations......

Well of course, they are two very differant drummers, and all of them in fact are very diffearant. And it would be unfair to do that, because they both have thier style, I just happen to enjoy Carl more Another two would be Bill Brudford and Alan White, they are both just great drummers, defietly not better than those to but honorable mentions.

Interestingly enough, Rick Wakeman sites Alan White as being the best drummer he has ever worked with...........

That would seem logical. Rick Wakeman is always trying to get further with the technology of keyboards, Alan always wants to get further with the technology of drums. Bill is just an old classic Drummer, but Alan uses all the sythesizers and all the gadgets, he's pretty good, and it shows in Relayer, one of my favorite albums.

I posted this in the other thread aswell......Danny Carey of Tool is far better than all of those guys. Now I know very few of you listen to Tool (judging by the sound of some of you I bet you've never even heard of them) but the way he holds together industrial and complex beats and riffs is just mind boggling to listen to and is even difficult for the listener to follow. I think he deserves to be on that list

Keith Moon, anyone?!

Keith Moon, well he is good, but not the best in my personal opinion, not close really. The whole band is a bit overrated, but not bad.

Now were getting into the teqnique vs. feel thing. Personally I believe All of mentioned drummers kick butt. From there on it becomes a matter of taste. Keith Moon by the way was fantastic in that he could keep perfect time with Petes keyboard loops and sill maintain his wild style. Never heard any Tool, will have to check 'em out....
