David Gilmour In Concert DVD: opinions.

I'm surprised that nobody yet discussed this new release by BDG. Many of us were eagerly waiting for it and so? Did you buy it? Do you like it? What do you think about new acoustic arrangements? What's your favourite moment of the show?

I think that it's an excellent work, actually. A good way to perform a solo show, trying to do something different from the band's work. I much appreciated the choice of the covers also, Barrett's songs were perfect for the format, Bizet's piece is just awesome (here Dave does a great job on vocals) and I really like the song by Richard Thompson. All in all a truly excellent effort, a great concert, with great musicians and the unique mood of an intimate venue as the RFH. At the end of the day the less noticeable track is the new 'Smile'. But the real high moment of the show is Breakthrough for me, the song is beautiful for itself but with Rick's vocals, Dave's wonderful solo and Dick Parry's sax it has become a masterpiece.

One last thing: what about Pink Floyd performing in this semi-acoustic style in small venues? Would you like it?

Re: David Gilmour In Concert DVD: opinions.

Overall, it was a nice show. I do wish he would have used the show from 1/18/02. I like the way he plays/sings Shine On much better. Also, he looks rather rough. Like he just woke up from an all-nighter!! Have you noticed that at some parts of the show his hands don't sync with the music? It seems a little "slow" to me. Maybe I'm just used to the PULSE video where everything matches up. Also, they should have left more of the audience questions.(When's the next Floyd album?) I think it would have given it a more personal and unedited feel to it. Don't get me wrong, I absoloutely love it. But I would change a few things for myself. I would have included "A Pillow of Winds" for one. But as I've said before in another post, Shakespeare's Sonnet 18 is awesome. Simple I know, but very powerful.
And about the boys getting together and doing some shows like this? I'd for surely go (if they came to the States!). But I'd be much more excited if the did it like the good ol' days!!

Re: David Gilmour In Concert DVD: opinions.

it was good , although the design is great , but Mr Gilmour himself looked very old , Rog really won and had the last laugh , after seeing this dvd gig , i understand why there will be no new Floyd projects ( with Gilmour as the main power ) , out of shape , acoustic version of SOYCD was genious , Comfortably Numb , ...well ..depressed after seeing it , the guy in a wheel chair , and even with Bob geldof sounded like a funeral last tune .
Songs were ok , good acoustic show , too short , home video wasn't that exiting and quite boring . good show ..but i prefer " in the flesh " .

Re: David Gilmour In Concert DVD: opinions.

I'm getting it on Wednesday hopefully (it only comes out in Oz then).

As for Floyd doing a tour in that format? I think there are so many people who want to see Pink Floyd that it kinda needs to be a big show / tour.

I mean sure, SOME Pink Floyd is better than none, and Roger Waters did just complete a world tour in venues catering to no more than 15 000 or so...but I just think that when a band as big as Pink Floyd goes on the road it needs to cater to the fact that there's going to be a lot of people wanting tickets (ie. a pretty little accoustic set is going to leave a lot of people on the street without a ticket).

Well, yes, you are absolutely right in fact. We all know that a similar format is impossible for the band, for these reasons you mention. My question was from an artistic point of view, pretty academic I'd say.

Re: David Gilmour In Concert DVD: opinions.

Do you think there would be many people without tickets if they did a tour of small venues as The Gilmour, Mason And Wright Band? I think the pulling power is in the Floyd name to many people, just a thought.
The dvd is a masterpiece btw although I do agree that Dave looks old and tired - mind you 8 kids!!!

Re: David Gilmour In Concert DVD: opinions.

I have yet to see the DVD. I am putting off buying it, just in case it turns out that I get it for Christmas. But I am looking forward to it. I thought long ago that either PF or Waters solo should do an unplugged concert. If there was one ( and the cool thing to do would be to do it unadvertised under another name so people would be totally shocked when they came out) I'd try my best to be there.
