Mind Blowing Gigs I was inspired to do so last night after the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert here in Adelaide. Those guys really do now how to entertain a crowd. I could not have come up with a better set list for those guys and well it would take me a long time to go into details of the gig so I won't. Flea as usual was a crazy nutter that he is, choosing to perfrom in his underwear and bright orange socks and beanie, also choosing to make a grand enterance when he came back for the encore, he walked on on his hands. I had never seen such a crazy and happy crowd (could have something to do with the fact that supprting act sucked balls) Anyhow those are just small details of that one particular gig. Now I want you to type away what have been the most mind blowing non Floyd gigs you have been to happy memories my dear Flyodians cheers

Don't you hate it when the warm-up gig sucks? When I saw Thin Lizzy and Ian Hunter in Milton Keynes ages ago, Judy Tzuke, the warm-up - yeuch!!! - was the suckiest thing that ever sucked. But Kitaro's Electronic Kodo show at the Dominion, London was one of the "most mind blowing" shows I've seen: all electronic plus new-age classical instruments and of course, Kodo drums. BOOM! BOOM-BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM-BOOM! BOOM

when the opening band sucks you just want them to hurry the hell up so you can see what you paid for.

I saw System of a Down. 3 opening bands. 2 of them sucked (Pulse Ultra - newbie band - and Down. Down sucks.) 1 of them of was bearable (Mashugga - DEATH METAL! AHHHH!!) Anyway, when two of three opening bands suck, it's a sad equation. There should be prior auditions to joining the local Opening Band Union (if that actually exists; if it doesen't, it would be cool to form, don't you think? Opening Band Local 341? )Don't listen to me, please.

LOL these guys sucked sooooo much it ws not funny and there was already a very unhappy crowd due to change of venue at the last minutes ( something was wrong with the stage) the funny thing is i was one of the few people who knew when the chili peppers were about to come on stage. You see ethey have built this little tradition where before they come on (this is only an Adelaide tradition) they put on this song that goes " I want to go home, I want to go home, I want to go home to Adelaide" and the rest of it goes on about how great Adelaide is it's really funny. Now i read this somwhere and had a lsiten to the song a few yrs back and recognised it when it came on i of course started cheering whereas everyone around me thoght i was crazy but i knew what was coming cheers ps excuse any typos

Sydney - yeah! The Chili Peppers put on a great, fun show. I saw them a couple of years ago with Stone Temple Pilots as the opening band. Fun, fun, fun! Like you said - the crowd is really into the show. Another mind-blowing, kick-ass, fun show was the B-52s with Ziggy Marley opening.

Must say, seeing Frank Marino and Mohagany Rush was a mind blowing experience, as was Rush and "Farewell to Kings" tour. Lynyrd Skynyrd was something else in '77, especially when Steve Gaines picked up that humongous doobie off of the stage and lit it up--there was so much smoke, you couldn't even see his face, and he was tearing the strings off his guitar with "I know a Little"...while the cops stood just a few feet away, but couldn't do anything...yeah, that blew my mind. White Zombie blew my mind, too, but in a different sort of way.

I envy everyone who has seen a concert. I have not seen a single one.

I saw Motorhead on their No Sleep Till Hammersmith tour around 1980 and I swear I was deaf for days afterwards, they were the loudest band I've ever seen. Last edited by Dr Cheese; 12-04-2002 at 08:52 AM. |

I'm envious of some of these experiences - Rush on the FTK tour; fantastic I'm sure. The Chilli's would be great to see at the moment - they sound like they're in a good place these days (lucky Sydney !). I'll call your Mahogany Rush and raise you: • Any Midnight Oil gig during 1978 - outstanding energy and political schtick (and perhaps the world's fastest version of 'Miss Shapiro'). • Jethro Tull on the Songs From The Wood tour in 1977 - John Glasscock (rip) was incredible, as was the whole band. • Queen in 1984 - I knew they were a great band, but I didn't realise how great until I saw them. Awesome. • Jeff Buckley in 1996 - playing in a small venue in Sydney; I'd never seen a crowd so into anyone ... you could hear a pin drop in all the quiet bits, none of the usual whooping. Of course he could sing the shit out of practically any song, but his guitar playing was absolutely fluid. • Jimmy Webb, same year. Incredible songs (of course) and a very funny guy. • Miles Davis in 1988 - great to see him just scratch his chin and 'think' about playing. What he didn't play was about as impressive as what he did play. • Cold Chisel, supporting Foreigner in 1978. Foreigner just seemed a bit silly after Chisel's set ("Hello Sydney, we love you !"). Look forward to more tales ...
