Today's Music Rules!

Yes that's right! Sydney starts two threads in one day! Shock freaking horror

Now I am here to appeal to all you open minded sensible people out there who don't bag all the artists out there. I am here to show two things, first is that jsut because you don't like it doesn't mean someone doesn't so be tolerant, of pop, of rap of hip hop of metal and all that Jazz. Secondly I am here to lsit some of the bands that I think are great and are doing a lot for today's music scene from my perspective (many of them are very mainstream too)
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Jane's Addiction
The Foo Fighters
Fugazi
Lauryn Hill
Wyclef Jean
John Butler Trio
Radiohead
Powderfinger
Silverchair
Placebo
Pearl Jam
The Cranberries
Metallica (in their hay day)
Rage Against the Machine (bless, no longer with us)
Perry Farrel
John Frusciante

There's plenty more but I can't think right now but not to worry your faithful Sydney will be back to fight her cause

cheers

you forgot to put "bam!" at the end to drive your point home.

I'm kinda partial to Incubus, Puddle of Mudd (Blurry is an awesome song), and Everlast, too.

I agree with you there Sydney...there's some good stuff around.

Unfortunately I don't think Jane's Addiction or Perry Farrel have released anything for a number of years (and don't plan to ever again). I'd love to be corrected though.

A few more additions to the list:

Sigur Ros
Doves
Cold Play (not that I've heard much...but I'm assured it's all good)
Ben Harper

There are loads of good bands around, but I'm not sure if any of them are 'great'. I think the most recent great band was The Smashing Pumpkins, sadly not existant any more.

I'm into music with a bit of emotion so Coldplay and David Gray feature as good current artists to me. Robbie William's new album is good as well. The Manic Street Preachers circa Everything Must Go is very good and they're still going.

Its just the poppy groups that perform 100% happy-clappy or I-can't-bear-to-lose-you songs that I take a dislike to.

"Rules" and "great" are big words but if we want to add names to the list of today's good stuff I'd say Morcheeba and Alanis Morrissette. And for the Italians here Max Gazzé and Carmen Consoli.

The Music
Burning Brides
The Thrills
Queens Of The Stoneage
The Datsuns
The Distillers
Cooper Temple Clause
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Elviss

And many more that I can't be arsed listing.

There's loads of worthwhile stuff out there.
