Can anyone confirm the identity of the three pigs in the song from Animals. (well actually just the first two since I know the last one is Mary Whitehouse) I am sorry if this has been done to death, but this has been bugging me for years. thanks in advance. andyc

Briefly the first one is a corporate pig, possibly a record executive. The second is subject to interpretation, but I believe she is Maggie Thatcher. There is an interpretation, saying the second is a housewife though but I don't think so. He doesn't like Maggie, does Roger.

thanks for the info Loupgaros, do we have any ideas who might the first pig have been (it is obviously some sort of corporate big wig), because Roger seldom pulls his punches yeah I also always thought that the second one was Maggie (the whole hatpin and handgun thing), but the song was recorded in 1977 when Maggie was only a junior minister (she was health or education minster for while "Thatcher, Thacther the milk snatcher"), so it doesn't necessarily tally. Also it doesn't quite makes sense with the 'handgun' reference unless she was noted for her sabre rattling whilst in opposition or as a backbencher. If it IS Maggie, it only goes to show (to me) quite how amazingly prescient Roger was because he had her card marked years before anyone else did. I completely agree that Roger disliked Maggie (he is a smart guy), but I always thought that came later (during the Wall and the Final Cut)

He didn't like her beliefs so even if she wasn't as notorious as she later would be, he still disliked her.

Bullshit. She wasn't Maggie, but some lady at the bus stop. His own words.

| Do you mean merely in the lyrics, or has Rodge actually stated this in an interview or in print? If has he stated this in a interview or print, I'd love to see a link if you happen to have one, thanks If it is just the "bus stop, rat bag " reference, it may be literal but it simply be allegorical ... | I suppose it was but I'd still go with Maggie Thatcher as the second pig. Thats what I've always believed. |

The second pig was not Maggie when it has been written, back in 1977, but according to Roger, it DID become Maggie when he performed the song during his KAOS tour.

I can no longer remember his exact words, but it is something along the lines of my just said. Someone out there surely has the interview where Rog said he saw some hideous woman waiting for the bus.
