Why is there no 'Pink Floyd Anthology'?!

Though I responded to a Beatles thread in another section, it was this question I originally intended on asking. Why isn't there a comprehensive video account on the life, times and music of Pink Floyd. A documentary, I guess. I know there has been a Vh1 'Legends' made and there are various bootlegs floating about but never a nice, solid account of their story. I'd love to see some old live TV appearance footage from the Syd days and some later live stuff presented in a way similar to The Beatles Anthology. Is it because the band has zero interest? Are the feelings so bad that they've never wanted to work on something like this? I'll stand up to the challenge, dammit! I love to amass footage and put something like this together as a project just for the love of it. Anyone know Dave or Rogers e-mail? heehee. Let me know if there is such a production available. Cheers!

I think it has a lot to do with how private the boys are. Remember the Beatles were media darlings. They had a symbiotic relationship, they'd get in front of the camera and the media would air it.

Floyd on the other hand were so much not about image. And popular media seemed to be uninterested in reporting on them. There's probably not a lot of footage out there (other than the Syd days) that we haven't already seen.

There is VH1's "Pink Floyd: Behind the Wall". Guess that's about as close as you get.

Re: Why is there no 'Pink Floyd Anthology'?!

Actually, i taped a 2hr Pink Floyd biography type show from Radio 2. That was quite nice, although i was a bit miffed when it effectively dismissed AMLOR as irrelevant. Still, it's a fairly good listen, with lots of interviews and stuff. And it's nice to hear Waters calling Atom Heart Mother "embarressing".

Also, on the Have You Got it Yet? Syd Barrett bootleg series, there's a good american radio show on disc 5. Although that is focussed mainly on Syd (possibly due to the editors cutting back the stuff irrelevant to Barrett)

Re: Why is there no 'Pink Floyd Anthology'?!

The 'Behind The Wall' documentary is actually quite comprehensive and goes in depth some-what, with some interesting interviews. Rick even exposes through his dialogue body language that he is still bitter about the business of him being 'fired' during the Wall sessions.

Although it dosen't cover the story of the band from the beggining to the end of their journey, it does briefly focus on their earlier days and how the band had evolved, before it delves into the story of 'The Wall'. So I suppose it's as good as we can expect.
