The guy's been dead for 25 years...give the guy a break. He is one of the most influential singers of all time, and what you said really is a bit harsh, whether you liked him or not. As Webb Wilder once said, "If you don't think Elvis is number 1, then your full of number 2."

Sorry but I can't help myself...... The Catcher In The Rye by Jerome David Salinger is a novel that symbolically illustrates the troubles of adulthood, the phonyness that comes with it.Throughout the novel J.D Salinger shows Holdens obsession with Innocence through various metaphores, The Catcher In The Rye simply means that. He would like to catch all the children before they fall into the horrible and 'phony' stage of adulthood, at the end of the book he realizes this is an impossible task and gives up... Mark Chapman (The guy who killed John Lennon) did not realize this, he thought that he could keep all the pure children from becoming exposed to the adult world. First, he had to take care of the first offenders! He needed to kill John Lennon and though it seems mind-boggling to some it is logical in a crazy-killer sort of way. In those times people like John Lennon promoted 'bed peace' which means, GO OUT AND HAVE SEX FREELY! Go out and strip down and boogie all night! One main element of 'purity' is virginity I suppose, so Mark Chapman said, this a$$hole John Lennon is taking the purity from the youth of America, he should be shot, so he went out and shot him. Then when the police asked him why he did it, he said, 'My defence is in The Catcher In The Rye' What an idiot, huh? ![]()

More probably if you think Elvis is number 1, you can't even mention a number 2. Except Beatles maybe, the 2nd biggest hoax in rock history.

| Re: When the Music's Over... Youngsteinbeck, Chapman mainly wanted to kill Lennon because he thought Lennon was a phony in himself, because he had 'sold out' (so to speak) on the ideals that he had been obsessed with in the late '60s. |

| Re: When the Music's Over... Yeah, and some say he wanted to kill him because he was too 'beautiful' to live in such a phony world. No one ACTUALLY knows...i'm just writing what I think is true.

| Re: When the Music's Over... I actually have a book all about Mark David Chapman and the killing of Lennon. It's an interesting read, if you can be arsed to find it. BTW, that's what Chapman says drove him to kill Lennon - his hypocritical actions. |
