When the Music's Over...

The world has lost one to many phenomenal musicians.
I am still deeply moved by the deaths of these souls, even though I may not have existed at the time. I have often wondered what it was like to be there...

Is there a musician that you're particularly attached to...or miss...thoughts, feelings, experiences, events?

For me it's Jim Morrison. If I'm in that sort of mood, just looking at a photo of his can put me in a somewhat emotional, bizarre state of mind...a longing of some sort. *difficult to explain*

Hope someone can relate..I thought this topic may make for an interesting change of pace....we'll see where it takes us...

I spose I'd be that way about Freddie Mercury, though to a fraction of the degree of Pearly's obsession with Jim Morrison -- I guess I think about Fred's life when I see pictures of him on t.v. or something, but I don't break down emotionally

Also, the deceased of The Who and The Beatles just plain old sucks, so, you know. Likewise, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn, though the latter I'm not too terribly familiar with.

The man, the artist, the great poet I miss is Fabrizio De André. He was much more than a great musician and an incredible lyricist... the greatest lyricist ever in fact, if you ask me. Fabrizio, Faber, was a master for a lot of people. I had the honour of meeting him and yes, I cried when he died.

I weep everytime I hear Barcelona which was sung by Freddie Mercury and Montsserat Caballe. Freddie's voice just overpowers the whole house when we paly that song very emotional stuff.
I also find it hard to contain emotion whenever I hear anything by Stevie Ray Vaughan, I find it sooo incredilbly sad when i consider the fact that he had the whole world at his feet and he was getting ready to reawake blues at a time when it had become bland and the world was swept by punk. Eric Clapton says "The first time I heard Stevie Ray Vaughan I thought: whoever this is is going to shake the world"
I also miss Albert King and Miles Davis but I find Stevie's and Freddie's daths more tragic becuase they were still young and could have contributed soo much to our world whereas the other died of old age. Still I miss them all but I think their music will always stay as a reminder of what we had even if it was for a short while.

Just to clarify, I've never considered myself to have an obsession with Jim. Like I said, "If I'm in that sort of mood"....and it's not an emotional breakdown, I don't even cry. It's a weird mood/feeling/state of being.... *difficult to put into words*

And lest we forget, ladies and gentlemen, The King.

I was very upset when SRV died. It was almost like having had a family member pass away. He had just finally started receiving the recognition he deserved.

Another artist who died way too young is Freddie King.
He was gone long before I was ever aware of him, but his blues and rock instrumental songs are classic, and covered by many.

Yeah, even though it was expected, I did get very sad when George Harrison died.

I don't really get sad or 'miss' them, because I never really knew them, the only thing that concerns me is, 'DAMN! Now I will never get to see them live, bastards...'

*Sigh*

Obviously I can't say I miss em, but probably the one who really should have lived more (cause he was still doing good things when he departed) is Ian Curtis.

A load of other artists deserve a tribute though.

If you're talking about Elvis i say good riddance! sorry that was harsh, i understand that people like him and respect him but it just never rocked my boat
