Dark Side of the Moon DVD-Audio Edition In Progress

From LAUNCH Music, a couple of hours ago:

Pink Floyd 'Dark Side Of The Moon' DVD-Audio Edition In Progress

(12/17/02, 1 p.m. ET) -- It looks like Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon will soon be heard in a whole new way. Rumors have been circulating for a little while that a DVD-Audio (DVD-A) version of the album, remixed in 5.1 Surround Sound, is in progress, although a label spokesperson would only say that it's not on the release schedule. Now, however, Alan Parsons has confirmed the project's existence.

Speaking at the Surround 2002 Expo in Beverly Hills last week, Parsons said that the members of Pink Floyd have been working on a DVD-A Dark Side. However, Parsons added that even though he was the engineer on the original Dark Side sessions, and that he has a lot of ideas for the new project, the bandmembers have decided not to involve him in the process, according to a report on the audiophile website Audiorevolution.com.

Spokespeople for Parsons and Capitol Records were unavailable for further comment.

It should be noted that the 30th anniversary of the release of Dark Side Of The Moon is coming up in March.

Should be interesting if it actually comes out. Glad I opted for DVD-Audio functionality when I bought a player.

I'm sure all will be revealed in time. DSOTM is such a great balance between music and message ... it would be nice to see that same balance coming back into the 'Floydscape. I mean, shit, it's just a mix ...

Like water? Oh sorry, that's a mixer. Anyways, should be good. 'Twould have been nice had Alan Parsons worked on the thing, but I don't see him being on the PF xmas crd list, frankly.

"Inconceivable!"

Just read on the Brain Damage web site that this will be released on the SACD format. The reason given was sony paid EMI the remix cost. I hope not since I would prefer it on DVD Audio. Anyone else heard anything regarding this.

Isn't sacd supposed to be a superior format to dvd-audio or is that just Sony bullshit?

I really don't know if SACD is better but I doubt my DVD player supports that format so I still hope it's going to be a DVD-Audio.

I've seen articles that say the sacd v dvd-a argument is similar to the betamax/vhs thing, where the one format is greatly superior to the other but for whatever reason most manufacturers support the inferior format.
