Obscured by Clouds

Hello all

Curious as to the board members' overall thoughts on this album. As my discography grows, I am considering this as my next purchase. It is the album in between Meddle and Dark Side and I, for one, hope it sounds more like Dark Side because I don't care much for Meddle. I guess I'm in the minority, but it's a little too hippy and psychadelic sounding for my tastes. (Except One of These Days, a classic)

So I guess I want to know...does it rockmore than Meddle? More emphasis on Guitar or KEYS, etc...thanks

OBC is probably the most underrated Floyd album and if you haven't got it then go and get it.

I don't think it like either of the albums. It may lean toward Dark Side because it has shorter songs, but its unlike any other Floyd. Also, it is a damn good album.

OBC was the last studio album i bought (I finished my collection this summer, having started it last xmas).
It really is a great album. I was quite surprised, because there's a lot of crap on the other soundtrack More. It also marked some of the final Wright songs, and i really love his stuff. There's something about his voice, and the way he works that organ.
Favourite tracks include "Burning Bridges, "Mudmen", "Free Four" and "The Gold It's in the..."

As said above and in the other older threads below and further, ObC is good and rocks the Floyd unlike either Meddle and DSotM.

Obscured By Clouds (I)

Obscured by Clouds (II)

Keep digging,
Byron

You will probably still repeat it even if you do learn it. Still, at least you will better recognize the pattern. OBC is pretty cool. It is definately a must have. I do enjoy More, but I feel that OBC is better. The music has a little more content. I still have to see the actual movies, though.

The bits of More i don't like are the somewhat ummagumma-esque instrumentals like Quicksilver. The vocal tracks are all pretty nice, in fact the whole of the first side is nice. But Quicksilver... come on...
