Ok it starts with the Fresh itailian Roll made in a local bakery
Then you get chip steak which can either be chopped up or in slabs(everyone has there preference)
next is the Cheese which can also vary the most popular are american or Wiz
but with a Pizzasteak you would have Mozzerella and Pizza sause on it
Next is onions which when you order the sandwich you say "Wit or Wit out"
which translates into regular English as With or Without
for the record I'm one for Wit out as I'm no fan of Onions.
And last is toppings Hot Peppers are a fave if your bowels can handle the next day. also a pizzasteak which I already explained wit Mozz. and Pizzasause. Some people also combine a Cheesesteak wit a Hoagie which gives it lettuce tomato and onion and or Peppers or pickles.
so there it is and don't let anyone tell you it can be made anywhere because they are lying. also some places toast the roll to but not all places.
Stop by sometime Eddy I know where all the Great Cheesesteak shops are.
Cheers Happy New Year.

Thanks for the info Mark

However being a vegetarian I'd have to pass on the 'chip steak' part...ummm..

cheese steak, hold the steak, Wit all the other fixings... I'd probably get tarred, feathered and run out of Philly on a rail

Mark, do you prefer Gino's or Pat's. These two weem to be the most famous of cheesesteak shops (located across the street form one another they are often at "war" for the best steak). I prefer Gino's.

These guys take their steaks seriously.

Re: New Years Resolutions!

Make mine "provolone wit".

All this talk of Phillies is making me drool. Granted, I've only had local imitations of the real thing, but I love 'em.

Re: New Years Resolutions!

Pat's or Geno's? I usually get one from both if i'm in South Philly. They are both great however there are many others that are real good also.
Delsandros
Steve's Prince of Steak
Chink's
Salvitos-Pizza steak is killer
And Yes Eddy it would be pretty tough to order one wit out steak.
And Stratman you could always get provolone to. But I'd rather have that for Hot Roast Beef Sandwiches.

I'm surprised to see that Cheese Whiz is a favorite...I would have guessed that would be as much a faux pas as Kerry asking for Swiss.

in Buffalo there is a chain of retaurants called Jim's Steak Out and they have the best Cheese Steak Sandwich you can get unless you drive 450 miles to South Philly...

Re: New Years Resolutions!

All this talk made me stop in and order a Provolone Wit from Geno's. Good, but in Lancaster County cheesesteaks come standard with sauce, Geno's and Pat's do not offer sauce (as far as I know).

You're making me homesick...

WV may do some things right (beer and liquor on sale in the grocery store...it's like Christmas every day), but not one damn person here can make a decent cheesesteak. The worst part is they all have the nerve to label their cheap imitations as 'Philly' cheesesteaks. Blasphemy, I assure you.

That, and you have to hit the border to get Yuengling.
