Japanese CDS (BONUS TRACKS)

while browsing through the sale section of one of my favourite shops (Music Zone, Suachiehall Street, Glasgow) i spotted the "best of syd barrett" for a fiver, then behind it Opel, Madcap Laughs and Barrett all for a fiver each, i was particularly impressed when i spotted this were different editions to what i had just seen in virgin megastores at three times the price without bonus tracks. so when i got home home i popped madcap laughs into my pc, and as i was on the net at the time media player downloaded the discographies and to my surprise it identified these cds as being japanese versions. so i get to the point ot this thread, if youre gonna buy syd's solo albums get the jap editions.

Or you could get the Crazy Diamond box set. I'm presuming they have the same bonus tracks as the CDs you got.

All of the versions bought now NEW in a bigger shop should have the bonus tracks. I doubt there was ever issued a version without the bonus tracks after the material from Crazy Diamond box set was split into the three CDs which were issued separately. anyway, don't buy it without the bonus tracks. They are very good sometimes and you won't get much bonus tracks from Floyd, will you?

EMI-Harvest Cds sold across Europe these days are the re-mastered edition with the bonus/alternate tracks.

Yeah I have an import two, and it has five additional tracks that were all studio takes. Besides all the false starts on them, they sound completely different from the originals. Its interesting to have and to listen too, especially if you're relaly used to listening to the originals.

There were a bunch of Japanese versions of their albums at this music store i go to. They were like 25$, i'm not sure what's different. The cases are really thin.

The reason they are so expensive is because those Wily Japanese have figured out a way to produce higher-quality disks than us Americans. Supposedly, the Japanese version are supposed to sound better.

It's not extended, it's just got a little extra volume boost in the low-end, like they did for vinyl mixes. I've got the jap DSOTM in the mini-LP version, and it's pretty cool. It's a complete scaled-down replica of the LP, with the stickers and posters. It even has the LP labels! And the CD sounds spectacular. I prefer it over the 30th anniversary edition, which I find to be rather stale and dull sounding.
