| Re: What guitar do you have? Yeah, Brick, the Martin was my father's. It is a wonderful guitar, except it has too-high action, which makes playing up at the 12th to 14th frets a bit uncomfortable. That's why I got the Yamaha, which (the F-310) is very inexpensive. But since I don't mess with acoustics that much, it works fine for me. I'm not familiar with Taylor acoustics, but they appear to be wonderful instruments, from what little I've seen. I know Guild's are very high quality, and I have a friend who swears by his Ovations. I think in this day and age you are going to get a good product regardless of which brand you pick.

| Re: What guitar do you have? I've got an old Epiphone acoustic guitar, some shitty Samick bass (don't ask) and my baby-- the 5-string Carvin LB75 with a dual-coil Humbucker, a J99, active/passive electronics, and good ol' KOA wood. I love me.

| Re: What guitar do you have? I've got one sweet Fender Strat (standard) black and one nice Ovation Celebrity (sunburst). yep, these are all the guitars I've got, but, hey! there's also a legendary Yamaha DX7 series I synthesizer, that is the first digital frequency modulation synthesizer from 1983.

I've seen some really nice Yamahas acoustics, the handmade ones are supposed to be the best, I think. Guild is high quality, imo, and I really like the Gibson and Martin acoustics. Some of the Taylors I've seen sound good, too. About that Martin, maybe you could lower your action some by lowering your bridge a little, without throwing off the intonation. But even so, seems the guitar could serve a good purpose as a open chord guitar if needed, especially since you say you'd rather play electric anyhow. Any particular effects you like to use? Delay? Echo? Reverb? Distortion? Chorus? etc...I'm thinking about building my own effects "box".

I took it to a luthier about 15 years ago, but the guy advised me to just leave it as it was. The bridge cannot be lowered enough to make much difference. So I do use it just to play open chords & up to about the first half-dozen frets. I also tune it down a full step to keep the tension on the neck at a minimum. It has marvelous tone, as you might imagine. My fav effects are reverb, chorus, overdrive, and occasionaly a little distortion. Sometimes a wah pedal. I used to use a lot more distortion, but got tired of it, and prefer a more clean sound now.

| Re: What guitar do you have? BTW, anyone considering buying an acoustic guitar might be interested in looking at a "Garrison". I have a musician friend who sells them, and I was looking at one a few days ago and was really impressed. It is available with the "Buzz Feiten" fret layout, which eliminates intonation problems. Play an open E, then an E barre on the 12th fret, and it's dead-nuts on. Basically, the fret spacing has been adjusted slightly to compensate for string-lengthening when a string is depressed to the fret. check it out: http://www.garrisonguitars.com/
