If so, well, we'll just have to cut his head off and bury him somewhere, 'cause it goes without saying that we can't turn him loose. He'd report us at once to some kind of outback Nazi law enforcement agency and they'll run us down like dogs. Jesus, did I say that? Or just think it? Was I talking? Did they hear me?" |

| I've got Pompeii DVD for a week by now and I think it's an excellent product. Not perfect but still a must buy for every Pink Floyd fan. The Concert: I should assume everyone has seen the videotape once in his life but I have to state once again that it's a wonderful one. Pink Floyd were at their peak and the 1970-72 period is my favourite Floyd era, creativeness, madness, talent. The sound is excellent and I have no complains about the absence of a 5.1 mixing. The video quality is also very good. The Director's Cut: It basically adds some elements to the 2nd version of the movie (the one with the Dark Side sessions): some are very interesting, some (the new CGI parts, namely) are just stupid. Extras: The Adrian Maben interview is interesting but it's a pity we don't have some memories from the band members. The rest of the stuff is a nice bonus. Great DVD guys, probably the best Floyd DVD out there, at the moment I'd say. P.S.: Quote:

| Hey everybody, I bought the DVD this morning as soon as the record store opened at 10am and I must say that Pompeii is everything I remembered it to be (although my memories comes from renting an awful VHS version... analog crap...) and more! I have a few questions about it ... the most important of them being: 1) In "Set the Controls" is it Gilmour doing the "ah-ah-ah" parts in between the verses and the repeated "set the controls for the heart of the sun" bit? It doesn't show any of them during that bit, and you can tell it sounds different from the rest of the song, which is a double-tracked Roger in unison with himself. 2) In the interview with Maben himself, he mentions he had footage of Roger doing the "One of these days I'm going to cut you into little pieces" vocal bit. I was always under the impression that part was Mason. So, since it actually shows Mason during that part, was it an overdubbed Mason, or Roger?

| Personally I'm dissapointed... Does Mr.Maben think he's George Lucas? He's messed around with his movie a fair bit and NOT given us the opportunity to view the original version! OK, so there's the 61-minute "concert only" film, but it's non-anamorphic (meaning it loses quality on widescreen TV's) and the original interviews are not present. I don't like the fact this new version keeps CUTTING AWAY FROM THE FLOYD! I mean, Maben can mess around with it all he wants, just give us the version we know and love on DVD too! Anyway, it was GOOD to see the new B&W footage, but I would have prefered it as an extra. Anyone know why Gilmour & Wright were recording the Echoes vocals in Paris? This wasn't the actual studio recording was it..? Surely they weren't overdubbing the Pompeii footage! Haven't played the interview yet, maybe it'll shed some light on it. Sorry for the rant... but I found this release aggravating! |

| Seen the interview now... guess they were over-dubbing in Paris! Maybe I'm a bit harsh on Adrian Maben, as it's probably Universal's decision as to which versions they put on the disc. Seems there were 2 versions: the original concert in 1971 and the '73 re-release with interviews... and now the 2003 version. I still think all 3 - in 16:9 Anamorphic - should have been on the disc! And the text is too small to read on the extra's! End of rant. |

| I hate to burst your bubble man, but there are overdubs on Pompeii. As I mentioned above, it's painfully obvious that in "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" there is a double-tracked lead vocal. Roger recorded himself over top of himself singing in unison. And also, as somebody pointed out earlier on in this same thread, the 16:9 footage of the concert film you see on the director's cut is actually cropped from the 4:3 version in the extras section.
