Thumbs up The Band: Dream Theater

Does anyone like THIS new band. I think they're great, though I have heard people who absolutely hate them, and most just haven't heard of them! What do you think?

Yep! There are NOT new. Can't really say I like them. But what I've heard by them is good stuff. I've only heard this tape of them performing some songs (especially a cover of a [supposedly] Elton John song)... to a very small audience (of 50 people!). That was good stuff...

I like Dream Theater. I have several of their albums and a DVD.

They are outstanding musicians. John Petrucci is (IMO) one of the top 5 guitar players in the world, and John Myung on bass, Mike Portnoy (drums) Jordan Rudess (Keys) are outstanding.

That's not to say I like every song they do, but they do 'em well.

Has anone heard this song? I don't know the name (it was on a friend's recorded tape). He says it was a cover they did of an Elton Johnsong. It has a line that goes like : "Love lies bleeding in my hand" or something like that...

yeah, Simon, it's called "Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" off the A Change Of Seasons album where they did covers of their favorite artists.

BTW, that song is my all time favorite Elton John Song.

Dream Theater is Ok...more of a Rush wanna be band in my opinoion. In fact, the first time I heard them was them doing a cover of 2112...I always thought they were a Rush cover band

They're pretty talented musicians. The singer's voice bothers me (sounds a bit too 80's-goth-rockish for me) and I think they're more technically impressive than anything else. Not a lot of soul, you know?
