The 9 cd Shine On box set

Is this worth buying or not? The average price I have found it for is $200, and for a poor college student, that's a lot of money.

I wouldn't bother if you already have most of Pink Floyd's catalogue.

Personal preference of course.

It might be good if your new to the Floyd, but otherwise it'll just take up space in your home...

Re: The 9 cd Shine On box set

I pondered buying it as well seeing as how I'm a naughty fan and won't buy the CDs and simply burn them until I am an actual hardcore fan. So far Pink Floyd and The Beatles are the only ones worthy... ha... ha, haha!

But it really is better to just buy the entire catalouge and then buy the rare singles CD seperate on half.com or something. It comes out to a little more than 200 but it gives you more for your money. (It's a gas, you know... bah... -.-) I'm not including Echoes, Works, Pulse, or any of those other ditties... buy those later when you have an extra 15 bucks... or better yet if you're new to Floyd I highly reccomend the Echoes compilation... it really does sum up the band and gives you more than The Wall and Darkside.

So if you're looking to buy them all, go with CD by CD... and buy the rare singls seperate used, it's what I did and I am a very satisfied Floydian. The Shine On box set is only necassary if you're new, or stupid to think it's the ONLY way you can get your hands on the book and the singles CD.

Re: The 9 cd Shine On box set

Thank you everyone. I had seen this on ebay, and just wasn't sure if it would be a good investment or not. I already have most of their cd's anyway. Since then, I have found all of the stuff included available for sale seperately on ebay as well.

Re: The 9 cd Shine On box set

Thats what I don't get about it. Only big fans of PF are going to want to buy the box set and they'd have some of their albums already anyway.

Re: The 9 cd Shine On box set

It's worth it for a completist, but the book could have done with a damned good proofread prior to putting the thing out!

Again though, it's nothing new. Just a bunch of old albums in a gimmicky packaging deal.

It's a bloody shame.

Anyway, I just bought it and had it shipped home. Someday, I'll stop and think.

You can get the Shine On Box Set here. This is my favourite site for online collecting.

Happy trails.

Re: The 9 cd Shine On box set

Ok. I myself would personally hunt down the Total Eclipse bootleg box set. As the makers stated, this is what shine on should have been. Covers everything in rare form from 1967-momentary lapse of reason. If u want the final things from division bell, i suggest trying to find Pulse 3, all of the songs not availaible on the Pulse discs, that the band played live that year. And finally try and find the Pink floyd anthology volume 1 and 2. this has other rare stuff, including "i'm a king bee" from the bands early days and the only cover that the band is known to have recorded.
