Top 5 Lyricists

Sorry if there's been one of these recently, but there aren't that many really good lyricists around, and was wondering what everyones top 5 or 10 lyricists of all time are. If you can't think of 5 in particular, then maybe just say something about lyricists you quite like at the moment

Here are my 5 today at least, I think.

1. Syd Barrett (a one off)
2. Bob Dylan (I'd get caned if I didn't put him in)
3. Roger Waters
4. David Bowie
5. Jarvis Cocker

That was tough, I've probably missed loads of really obvious ones off, no John Lennon, Ray Davies, Jim Morrison and there are loads of others who were pretty good in the 60's & 70's. I guess it depends what u look for in lyrics.

Well, i'm not going to try to do this in order, because it is almost impossible. But one would most definetly be Roger Waters, another would be, Peter Gabriel, Jon Anderson, Neil Peart, Tony Banks and many more...

eh, recently, i like Beck Hanson, George Harrison, Neil Young, and Peter Gabriel.

Dylan and Hendrix I dig as well.

And although I'm not terribly familiar with them, I like Arlo Guthrie, and Ramblin' Jack Eliot (whom I'm pretty certain Bob Dylan stole his act from).

i dig the collective writing of Queen. Meaning, when they're all together and when they're writing separately, within the band that is. normally i'm not much for their solo efforts, and many others as well.

Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Billy Joel, whoever it is that writes for Pedro the Lion, Art Garfunkel, and although he isn't a favorite of mine, Eminem is a ****ing amazing lyricist.
