Cover versions

i just wondered what you all thought of other bands cover versions or remixes of pink floyd tracks and other songs in general.

my thoughts: i dont like covers of pf tracks but i prefer marilyn mansons sweet dreams/tainted love covers to the originals.

I don't like the Pink Floyd covers either.

Here's a question: did somebody cover Clapton's "Bellbottom Blues?" I want to say Sheryl Crow did, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, they're pretty sorry. I don't think anyone should cover a song by a band that they like, because they can never do justice to the original artist. No, usually, when people just cover a band for the hell of it, it comes out pretty decent, in my opinion (of course there are exceptions!).

i think All Along the Watch Tower by Jimi Hendrix was probably one of the best covers I can think of, especially because it was greatly improved from the original. Kudos to Dylan, though.

Anyhow, I've never heard any Pink Floyd covers, aside from Wish You Were Here by John Reznik and Fred Durst...and I hated that. I've heard about Another Brick Part Two floating around somewhere featuring Tom Morello, but never heard it.

the I Am Sam soundtrack has some good Beatles covers, as well.

I bought Dark Side 2001 awhile back and I was really dissapointed. There were some cute new-age perks. Like how at the beginning of Time they had the digital alarm clock go off instead of the Grandfather clock... I thought that was funny. (Also, the heartbeat on Speak To Me was that of one of the band members' unborn children at the time... from the womb... creative, ne?) Though, they basically ruined all the tracks... Money sounded like it was covered by Daft Punk and Brain Damage sounded like Jimmy Eat World on LSD... grr... I don't reccomend them... but if Out Of Phase did some independant stuff it would be okay.

Radiohead did 'Wish You Were Here' and I'm none too keen on it.

Alas, don't be disappointed in Radiohead, Gerry. That's just Sparklehorse with Thom Yorke on vocals (which were recorded from his hotel room).

I haven't heard it, but I imagine that you can't get great emotional singing through a hotel telephone.

I've heard Tool's cover for CN (althogh it's not a real "cover"), and didn't really like it.
