"mature, adult and responsible discussions"?

That's exactly why I changed my avatar and signature, in anticipation.

Sounds like a 'sealed section' in a magazine - if it helps me find the 'G-spot', I'm all for it !

Re: New forum for unmoderated & mature discussion

As stated in my first post:

Quote:
(...)

it will be a self-regulated medium, incorporating the standard Rules of Conduct at APFFN and some additional rules, including that should there be numerous validated complaints about content-posters, they will be banned from the forum and/or from all APFFN, at APFFN's discretion.

By "adult" discussion, we do NOT mean that it is a sex forum, as some people implied (j/k, lifemask), in case anyone is wondering.

It is meant to be as a place where users could politely discuss subjects that are not allowed on the rest of the forum, controversial issues such as politics, religion, etc.

It can't be a "totally" free as in NO moderation at all as Simon put it, basically, because there is no such thing as "totally free" anywhere in the world, there are always some kind of rules, or we would end up in civil war. So, if someone for instance, starts talking about how he/she enjoys being racist, there's no way we could allow such thing, as APFFN could be held co-responsible for this person's posts.

Basically, users who agree to our terms in order to be able to access the forum will have to comply with them. Quoting geek/talk's posting guide (a little adapted to fit our own community):

Quote:
Member Post: You s--u--c-k I think you *****
Member Post: I'm having a bad day, You ALL suck I think you *****

APFFN Response: All of these posts are inappropriate. They either attempt to subvert our profanity filter or are caught by the filter. We all have "bad days". If you are having a bad day go to the beach and take a long walk, visit a newsgroup and vent, take a nap, or consider a long talk with a trusted friend, husband, wife, girlfriend, or rehab counselor. Member banned.

Member Post: I have a first amendment right to call you a *****
Member Post: I have a first amendment right to say and do whatever I want on this BB. So dude, get ******
Member Post: I run a board and have zillions of hits. So dude, get ******
Member Post: I have a browser so I can do whatever I want on your BB. I also have a mouse which means I can do even more. All the other BB I post at let me do stuff like this which I mean, this BB can ***** ****

APFFN Response: You have no first amendment rights on this BB. Profanity filter activated. Owning a browser or a mouse gives you no rights on this BB. Actions on other BB don't govern our Rules or procedures. How you run your BB is entirely up to you and won't govern our rules or procedures. For any of these types of posts you are banned.

In case we ever open such a forum, I will post explicit rules such as this ASAP.

Also, about Simon's concert ("What if people like ATH or Convag popped up again? How do we deal with them? Do we vote democratically? Or display everyone's I.P.? "), basically: if a user abuses any of our conditions, he/she will be banned. No warnings, just banned on the spot. Depending on the gravity of his/her actions, he may be banned from this forum only or from all APFFN. Also, as I've posted (and quoted) before, "should there be numerous validated complaints about content-posters". We'll establish clear rules about this.

Wrapping it up, this forum would be a privilege, a vote of confidence that APFFN is giving to our users, because of your requests. If there are any problems with it, we can and will shut the forum down and/or ban members, as needed. Those are the rules we're setting.

I'm still checking to see if such an opt in forum is possible with the forum software we use. So far, I don't think it is, and I don't want to have to manually activate each user that wants to use such a forum. But I'll keep looking for a solution.

Re: New forum for unmoderated & mature discussion

In regards to this forum...

Sydney, BoaB, Shane G., Wing'd Icarus, NNJ, and a few others of you may recall...as friends, we've shared some pretty intense thoughts with each other, especially in regards to politics. And I gotta tell you, that each time, it's turned into a gigantic argument, in which people have gotten very upset. This is on an instant messenger service mind you. When you bring together people from all over the world, and discuss topics which people have very strong conviction about, things may tend to get very heated.

Basically, I won't be participating in discussions in this forum for this very reason, but I do wish all of you that do the best of luck. It shall be interesting indeed. I enjoy the lighthearted atmosphere of APFFN, and so that's where I'm gonna stay. I just love you guys man! So Peace, make love not war, and enjoy...

My thoughts too, I come here for a bit of lighthearted fun and while I can appreciate some people wanting a more 'adult' forum I can see it degenerating into a bit of a scrum.

I tend to agree with both Pearl and the Cheese. But it would be nice to have the option to discuss 'adult' themes if anyone wanted that.

Re: New forum for unmoderated & mature discussion

Thanks Piper. It looks like it will be a forum with similar rules as APFFN... just that here is a reserved spot for discussions such as Politics etc. which were previously not allowed. I think I get the picture...

People need to be more patient. if they can't handle it, shut it. Don't reply, don't post. They are all words on the screen darn it. Opinions will always exist, so will biases. It's all about bringing forth different views. If you can't tolerate the views of another, well maybe you are better of not participating. But getting personal is not the way to do it, no matter how heated the discussion maybe...

Re: New forum for unmoderated & mature discussion

As much as I am in favor of the principle behind the thread, I can't see it ending with anything but a shouting match. Regardless of the respect I have for each individual member of this board, my imagination cannot comprehend a discussion/argument on the Internet that actually convinces someone of a view contrary to their own. Basically, I'm for it, but what's the point, really?
