In my opinion the forums should be only 2:
one for "any" topics about PF (and members);
one for "any" releases (for collectors).
This way we could see all the latest messages at once. Although, this is not a big problem because we have the "search" task.

that'd still be a pain in the arse.. cos if you tried to search for anything if everything was spread over the two forums you'd be trying to filter through pages of search results..

the current system makes life so much easier

Rob.. I might have to try it again.. but if anything goes wrong.. you know what'll happen

cheers

Don't bother... When I get a chance, I'll send you a clip.

There's a good bit in the "Musclebob Buffpants" episode...

It actually makes me browse these boards far less than i would if there were just 4 different forums alltogether, because it's far too much of a pain in the ass to check all 18 forums here for new and interesting posts. It's a pity because there are interesting topics here, but they are so spread out amoungst this great big mess of forums that i just can't be bothered usually. So i only check the "Recent topics" feature on the main page of APPFN, if even that.

All we really need is this
- Technical discussion (problems and questions with the site/forums)

- Pink Floyd discussion (talk about the band and its members)

- General discussion (talk about whatever you want)

- Creative discussion (talk about music/poetry/art and all that stuff)

Just imagine how much better this would be for out community here, there would no longer be about 10 forums which get about 1 post per day which gets ignored anyway. The 4 forums will bebustling with life and happiness!

Dazed&Confused.
That sounds like a good idea. It would make everything a lot simpler and easier to browse.

Re: We need less forums.

I agree with the original post. For example, I want to discuss Dogs, so I go to the Waters-centric part of the forum. A week later, I go to the after-Syd section and find an in-depth thread comparing DSotM with Animals. It's not necessarily bad that I didn't find what I was looking for right away, but it causes many repeated discussions (spam) and generally diluted threads.

There are many more cases of this. Time periods, in my experience, are generally not the best way to catagorize items for discussion. Subject matter, again, in my opinion, would serve us much better.

My suggestion:

1. Help/FAQ/New user information
2. APFFN Discussion
---------------------
3. Playing Different Tunes - a place to talk about your favorite guitar or keyboard solos and "the Pink Floyd sound" altogether
4. Hear What You're Saying - discuss the lyrics and themes found in the band's work
5. General PF Discussion - anything related to Pink Floyd!
---------------------
6. Fan Creations - share your PF-inspired art, aural, visual, or literary
7. Other Bands - discuss any music not related to PF (as if it exists :p)
8. General Discussion - anything fit for the water cooler
9. Dark Side of the Forum - same as current

I like the way the forums are arranged. If you can't find what you're looking for by just looking around, you can always use the "search" function.

I think that's a good point, but there will still be numerous threads to cover one subject, which artificially bloats the system. But this way works, too.

Re: We need less forums.

Now that the mods have the power to "merge" duplicate threads, I imagine the DDT problem will become less of a drag.

I still want the "Ask Dr. Botley" forum.
