Steve O'Rourke to give up racing

From Daily Sports Car.com (apud Brain Damage):

It is with a degree of sadness that we have to report that Steve O'Rourke has had a medical examination and a slight heart problem has been detected - which means that his racing career is effectively over. He and Tim Sugden had planned a return to the FIA GT Championship this year, with the EMKA Porsche - one of the most developed of the breed.

Tim Sugden has been O'Rourke's partner since 1996, and expressed the opinion that "Steve epitomised the spirit of the gentleman racer: he ran a superb team, he treated everyone extremely well, and he loved his racing - perhaps more the historics than anything else. We were going to have a very good year together..."

Steve O'Rourke has been the manager of Pink Floyd since 1968 when he was working for the Bryan Morrison Agency. Pink Floyd were managed by the Bryan Morrison Agency after splitting up with Pete Jenner and Andrew King. Today Steve O'Rourke is the manager of Pink Floyd Ltd. 1987 via the London based company Emka Productions Limited. He is also managing David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Rick Wright.

Steve O'Rourke was a member of the Pink Floyd soccer team in the seventies and also has other hobbies in commom with some of the Pink Floyd members. He participated in the car race La Carrera Panamericana together with David Gilmour and Nick Mason. He produced the resulting movie and he has been executive producer on Pink Floyd the Wall, Delicate Sound Of Thunder, Cement Garden and Pulse.
