David Gilmour - Castaway

David Gilmour appears as Sue Lawley's castaway, on BBC Radio 4's legendary Desert Island Discs on 30th March, at 12:15pm. It is a forty-five minute programme, where the castaway selects their favourite music, book, and luxury item, to make life on a desert island more bearable. It is repeated the following Friday.

Nice to see I'm Still Here by Tom Waits on Dave's selection. Right on, David!

I caught the radio programme and wondered why nearly all his selections were of terrible voices/singers, not in any way denigrating the performers' other popular talents: Dylan's and Young's songwriting, etc. What's, uh the deal?

David sounded good and Sue was okay - weedling for juicy PF details but getting nowhere - and not a whole lot new on the Pink Floyd front sadly. Nothing currently planned. He's still working on music and raising kids. He's the Daddy.

No mention of his forthcoming Roundhouse appearance. Strange.

Well APFFN needs to be updated if it's true the gig has been scuppered.

GW#1: Oh but he IS the daddy, hon. The BIG daddy.

This is from Brain Damage.

DG AT ROUNDHOUSE - IMPORTANT UPDATE: Late this afternoon, Brain Damage was contacted by the Roundhouse with the sad news that the May 2003 Festival, posted below and set to feature David Gilmour - has been cancelled. The Festival was to be an eight day event, a fitting way to mark the closure of the old Roundhouse prior to building works starting on June 2nd.

The main reasons for the cancellation were given, including the following: "In the middle of the war it was felt that we could not go ahead with a major, potentially lavish fundraising event at this time and a number of artists were concerned about being involved in a major festival, particularly those coming from abroad...". Our thanks to the Roundhouse for keeping us in the picture about this festival.
