Re: Dumb Punkers

I would be inclined to say the kids who listen to unfashionable music (such as Pink Floyd) are the REAL non-conformists.

I copped a lot of crap when I was at school for listening to Pink Floyd and not Pearl Jam or whatever trash they were listening to...and I'm bloody proud I stuck to my guns. The Floyd has stuck by me for quite a few years now.

Re: Dumb Punkers

Some are, some are not. And btw, a real punk is a nihilist more than a rebel, mod were rebels, hippies too, but punkers just don't give a shit (so they say).
Hüsker Dü, Ramones, Gun Club and Cramps are my favourite. (CCCP too, an italian group)

Once again I agree with you completely.

Re: Dumb Punkers

According to Mr. Bordenet, AKA Moby of FSC, Punk was created by the captalist market for mooch off the consumer, much like Grundge. Watch the documentary "The Filth and Fury" which is about the Sex Pistols (very good movie I might add) and see what they say about the Punk market.
I myself am a Grue. Don't know what a Grue is? Good! Wound't want the fasion market to find out.
I hate being mainstream.

Re: Dumb Punkers

With music, I usually listen to stuff nobody has ever heard of. I guesss the only mainstream stuff would be Moby, Beck, Bjork, and Radiohead, except they're not that mainstream.
Too bad I never caught Radiohead pre-'Creep'. I must admit, I too was reeled in by OK Computer's Paranoid Android.
BUT THOM'S A PUNK!!! YEAH!

--Well getting back to the subject, whether the music is good or not (that was not the subject), is beside the point. The question was whether the clothes was rebelious or not, and the clothes is certainly rebelious. Just like jeans were rebelious in the early 60's, this clothes kids wear today (lots of pockets, useless chains, spiked hair) it is all certainly rebellious, and it will pass someday of course. Me? I like to sneak into places, so wearing noisy clothes doesn't really work for me.

Driven's quote makes it sound like he listens to Pink Floyd simply to be a non-comformist, if this is the reason you listen to music that is horrible. Listen to music because you like it, not because you don't want to be like everyone else. And, as a matter-of-fact, Pink Floyd is quite popular at most high schools, especially Another Brick IN The Wall pt. 2, for obvious reasons.

The "Real" non-conformist probably listen to the music whales make, just to be sure no one within a miles radius holds thier same opinions.

Oi! Don't be callin' Pearl Jam trash!

Besides, isn't 'non-conformation' a 'conformation' in itself?

Kinda like : "If you choose not to choose, you've chosen already"

Re: Dumb Punkers

Pearl Jam stinks live, it seems that they forget how to work the guitar when thier on stage.
I never really liked them that much though.

Re: Dumb Punkers

I'm not much too hot for their "Live" songs either.

Infact, of late the radio has been voicing this utterly, trash version of "Black" (One of my beloved songs). there's almost no guitar, can almost hear nothing. It sucks totally and I can only imagine the number of people getting turned off by this kinda songs from a vet. grunge band..

There is only one song that I really like from them, ah, I can't remember the name now. But I never was a huge fan.

Re: Dumb Punkers

i hate punk rockers, ecxept the hard core ones. i hate hte music, the image, the idea of it, i dont' like it at all. and about the anarchy, .. they should read some of the anarchy cook book. me and a few freinds of mine have learned many'a thing from that.

the only "OI" i know of is the "OI" in the song TNT by AC/DC

Re: Dumb Punkers

I know quite a few punks, and let me assure you, they aren't punk because they want to be 'different' -- They dress the way they do and listen to the music that they listen to because that's what they prefer. It's not a desire to be different from everything that there is, it's a desire to express oneself and to embrace the culture of 'punk.'

Also, as far as anarchy goes, I think very few punks actually endorse it as a utilateral governmental/social policy. And the Anarchist's Cookbook has very little to do with the actual theory of anarchy.

Re: Dumb Punkers

I think it depends on the punk. Most of them are just hipsters, and the only ones that were alive to hear real punk are now past the age where they can really be called rebels.
