Stay!!!

ok i know "Stay" has been credited vocally to Rick and Roger, but on the chorus, im not so sure... it sound nothing like ANY of them singing actually. is anyone else as curious as i am? im not saying i'm right. im just wondering who else is in doubt that its really Roger and Rick singing on the chorus.... i mean, who else could it be?

my best guess........nick mason!!!

Roger isn't singing on 'Stay' at all (or if he is it's almost inaudible), i don't know where you got that from. Rick sings the whole thing, and Dave joins in at the chorus.

Is Rick the author of the music and Roger the author of the lyrics as I would guess?

oh, i must be mistaken, because this very website says:

"Stay (Wright, Waters)

[04:02] Vocals by Wright and Waters."

...in the Official Releases section.

is PFF.net wrong?

Rick sings the lead vocals, and this is for sure. Someone joins for the chorus as backing vocals: I cant' tell if Dave or Rog but I'd say David.

As for the authors for music and lyrics I frankly don't know. Both music and lyrics seem much more Wright's stuff than Roger's (Rick doing lead vocals reinforces this point) and books are not clear about this.

Yeah, it sounds just like Rick. I can't even hear the backing vocal that everyone is talking about.

the backing vocal is the higher vocal on the chorus, harmonizing with Rick, posted below in the BOLD font...

"midnight blue burning gold
a yellow moon is growing cold"

"morning dews newborn day
midnight blue turn to gray"

and again on

"midnight blue burning gold
a yellow moon is growing cold"

rick sounds normal on the rest of the song, but on those 3 parts, he just sounds like a totally different person, like his voice is not as 'nasal' and soothing as usual or something. its wierd, but it drives me frigging crazy. thats why i was wondering exactly who the hell it was. to me, he just sounds totally different on those parts. arrrrrg...

I don't think Rick sounds much different on the chorus. But i'm certain that it's Dave harmonising with him. Just listen carefully to it, it sounds exactly like Dave!

Well, it is definitely NOT Roger. That should be obvious enough. Initially I thought it might be simply another track of Rick over top of what sounds like a double-tracked lead vocal... but now that I listen to that "midnight blue" in the second chorus... it sounds very Daveish. It's hard to tell; a lot of old Rick and Dave harmonies sound very similar. Though, I think in this case I'd go with Dave. It's definitely a Dave-like harmony.

I think it's Rick and Dave. Whoever could be singing that? A Papuan native?

OK, two months later, I finally listened for the backing vocal. I say it's either an overdubbed Rick or Dave. It sounds nothing like ol' Rog.
