I was going to tell you that I liked your avatar.

I love Big Brother. Any other love is misplaced loyalty.

And that was a joke, kids.

Surely you're located in Oceania, and not Air Strip One, right, HentaiCarrot?

Just take a look around here lately. Shane G. posts one thread about food, which is cool. But we don't need to start a bunch of additional threads about food! And what is with these threads that are introduced by a five word sentence...which provokes no thought what-so-ever!

Sorry about the complaining! I'm just disappointed with the quality of discussion going on here lately!
I have been thinking the same thing myself for the past several weeks. And it saddens me to see that even this thread, that PW started, trying to call up everyone's attention to this important issue - that discussions on APFFN have been shallow, to say the least - have turned into yet another thread that I would rather not waste my time reading.

Sorry for being harsh, but that has been the way I've been feeling lately. I'm right now in a very hard time of my life. I just graduated from college, and I've been studying full time, at home, everything we learned on Law school to pass the bar exam, and, I hope, to become a judge/prosecutor/whatever. I don't have much time for my girlfriend, I don't have much time for my friends, and I don't have much time for APFFN anymore. But I still manage to come here every day, hoping to find good threads and discussions. I've been very disappointed lately, I must say. All I'm doing lately is scan (not really read, just scan) threads, to see if I can find any interesting discussions that I might join in, with usually no success. What I've been doing in APFFN lately, during the little free time I have from my hectic life is try to clear up the forums, closing duplicate threads and all. And yet day after day I find several new threads about subjects that I, personally, don't find very compelling. And those that are indeed interesting won't last long, as one-line posts about anything but the original subject will fill pages and more pages of the thread.

You may have noticed I haven't been participating in discussions very often, and that is the main reason. I have been pushing myself not to speak about this, as users seemed to be enjoying themselves with these endless one-line posts and chit-chat, but since PW mentioned it, I figured I had to speak about this as well. APFFN has turned into a place where people chit-chat, period. This is far from being a floydian place as I first intended it. And I'm less and less inclined to visit it only to find these endless threads in the "Babbling" forums and having to do the cleaning up procedure as I've said before. I'm afraid to say that APFFN has slowly become a hassle, more than a pleasure for me.

Ok, I guess I had to vent that out. Back to studying now...

Well, my theory about what's happening to this forum was in the "Just babbling" thread ( http://www.pinkfloydfan.net/t2292.html )

:o That bad, eh?

GtM : You mean the impact as on their economic standing (and hence political might as well)??

This is silly, quite literaly! I can see where Pearls and Piper are coming from. Many of our regulars left for the same reason. I love the threads that we have but i do miss some of the great big serious discussions that we've had in the past, i say we get our act together and help Paulo regain his lovefor this place

cheers

Right now we have discussions going on movie soundtracks, the ethereal draw of Pink Floyd, the absoluteness of reality, and it looks like we're about to have one on the influence of digital technology on modern economic classes.

I don't know what to say.

Coming from my background and the experiences I have been through, it would seem to me that digital technology is more harm than good to the common worker (ofcourse). But then again, I'm talking about a largely Agrarian lifestyle (which has slowly shifted towards the Servcies sector) and a predominantly illiterate population.

Perhaps in advanced economies, digital technology may prove crucial, as I believe that for such a thing to suceed, the presence of a large, well-trained workforce is essential (which is largely in place). But here again, improvements in company bottom-lines may very well be noticed, but I doubt that you'll see much more than a marginal improvement (if at all) in ordinary worker life...

So much for the worker perspective (maybe I've got this all wrong)....

Oh, and what's this "free media" thing?
