Free media meaning digital technology (i.e. the Internet) makes access to various forms of media easier and, in many cases, free-- You don't need to buy a newspaper, you don't need to buy CDs, you don't need to buy movies. In most cases free media is illegal, but there's beginning to be bleeding. There are legal free mp3s that you can download, there are free movies that you can download (although probably not anything out of Hollywood). But the times they are a-changing.

Oh that! Thanks...

It brings me to this great debate people have been having since Linux was released. About how most companies rejected the whole idea of open coding software. About how most of them dismissed it saying that it wouldn't last long...

I'm highly suspicious of it though. It seems to un-capitalistic an idea to suceed. I am one of those few who would like to believe that Altruism exists, for example, but believe that on a basic level, it is impossible.

Some friends of mine were talking about open-source coding at dinner tonight, actually. A couple of them are reading a book called something like 'Free Software, Free Society' or something like that. I forget exactly. I might pick up a copy.

Could it be the next revolution against the capitalist? (i.e. capitalism)

I seriously doubt it though. I mean, this maybe biased (since they are my views), but I feel that ordinary humans are far to greedy to work such a system (or let such a system work). The concept of Socialism (for example, though it may be a bad example) has failed in every area it has been implemented in. Some even attempted to marry capitalism to socialism and created a bigger mess...

Socialism has failed as a governmental process, but as far as simple commodity trade goes, I don't think it's been proven to fail.

You see, that's where I think the problem lies. The places it's been implemented in, the pre-requisites were not even there. I always felt that it'd been implemented in places where it was bound to fail (mainly poor and/or developing nations)...

Er, maybe we ought to shift our discussion, eh?

Well, what The Piper said moved me a lot.

It set me thinking... and I realise that I've been a cause to his frustration too. And probably I've caused frustration to a lot of others too (maybe the entire board).

For my mistakes, I apologise again. I never intended to cause harm intentionally.

From hence forth, I refuse to take part in meaningless posting...

Well yeah, really no one has actually tried socialism on a national scale. The USSR was fascism being called 'communism.' It's a farce.

Actually if you look at the ideology of National Socialism and Communism, I really don't see much of a difference.

1) Both of them are one-party states (Hitler just usurped more power... otherwise, it wa a one party state).
2) Both of them put state above all else.
3) Both controlled almost every aspect of citizen life.

Yeah, I see where you are comming from...

"Lenin tore up the rule book when he implemented Communism in Russia."

The only real communism that has existed, as far as I can tell, was in the early Christian church and among hippies thirty-five years ago.

You might want to start a thread to continue this conversation. Just a thought.
