Do Commercials Ruin A Good Song?

I went through search and didn't find a topic like this, so if there is one I'm sorry.

Do you think commercials that use a bands music can ruin that song for you. I'm not going to get into the whole "commercialism sell-out" thing. I'm talking about when you see a commercial and it has a song that you like, does the product it's trying to sell deter you from liking that song like you use to?

I didn't think it would for me. Then Cadillac started using one of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs in their commercials. I still like the song, but now every time I hear it I yell out "The Cadillac Song". They took a kick ass song and turned it into something that makes me think of crappy cars. Which, I guess, accomplices what they set out to do. I would like your opinons on this.

Sure, it may be shitty to hear your favorite songs in commercials, but I don't think it ruins it.

I sometimes like to hear songs I dig in commercials. I pay more attention to the song than the product its supposed to sell, and it makes me happy to be flipping through channels and hear a song I dig. It makes me smile.

There was a Mogwai track not too long ago in a Levi Jeans spot. It made me smile.

Right. You can be disappointed, as Shane pointed out, but the music you love is still there.

It's funny sometimes you watch a very interesting commercial, and you remember it all, and it was very funny and interesting...but you don't remember what they are advertising! LoL.

I just bought a box of Tampax. With wings!

They're quite comfy actually.

Cheese, they don't put wings on tampons. That would be silly.
