Re: Acid Jazz, Techno, Trip Hop, Electronica

Ok, back to the original topic, I first started enjoying trip hop a few years back. First with Portishead, of course, and then went on to Morcheeba, Massive Attack (although not much) and a few others. Then I started listening to chill out/lounge music compilations, such as Cafe del Mar, Buddha Bar and Hotel Costes. In the past few months I started enjoying psychodelic trance more and more, in the style of GMS (Growling Mad Scientists). I'm now growing a little bit out of it, intentionally, actually, because I can't concentrate when I'm listening to that kind of music.

I never did enjoy much electronic music, but I slowly learned to appreciate it. Psytrance, as it's called, has so many sounds built into the music that it's a trip by itself. A more upbeat kind of trip, I must say, when compared to progressive rock, for instance. But I definately do enjoy it.

A good peer-to-peer software for downloading electronic music is SoulSeek. I can't remember the URL, but with a Google search you'll be able to find it in a couple of minutes.

Piper: I can see some reasons why you, as others don't like Massive Attack that much. I find it hard to find things i DONT like about their music, however. I think (and i stole some of this from a Rolling Stone article but I agree with it) that Massive Attack is the absolute best at creating an environment with their music instead of just a soundscape. Their music has so many different dimensions i cant help but be impressed with them - even if a lot of it is sampling and knob turning.

May I ask what you've heard by Massive Attack and you're reasons for not liking them?
