this is what WWF say:

Do pandas roam?
Pandas migrate up and down the mountains depending on the season and the availability of bamboo, over elevations varying from 2,400 to 4,500 feet. In the past they could travel across valleys, and up other mountains in search of bamboo, but these days the encroachment of human communities makes this nearly impossible. Incidentally, pandas are good at climbing trees. They can also swim.
