As I mentioned above my bandmates and I are working on a CD project this year. We have looked into studio time but it is expensive ($$$$$). Have any of you used any of the PC based "Recording Studio" programs out there. If so what do you like or dislike?

I've looked at a PC version of Cubase, didn't really get a feel for it. What have you guys used? Any suggestions?

I know that post is a little old, but I've been using Sonic Foundry Sound Forge to record, then Acid Pro to mix. Very intuitive to use.

I'm strictly amatuer, but have been playing many years. Feel free to check out some of my stuff on my website. www.home.earthlink.net/~aaron4738

Re: Performance Anxiety

1) How often do you play (Perform, not Practice) ?
I'm usually playing piano for some type of performance about once a month. Sometimes it's by myself, sometimes it's with other people

2) What is your genre (what type of music do you perfer)?
I play a lot of classical for my lessons, but in my free time I play all Classic Rock. I've got tons of Beatles books, The Who books, Pink Floyd books, all that good stuff. And if there aren't available music for songs that I like, I print out the guitar tabs and figure it out on the piano! And it's free! I really like playing Yes music right now. It's really a challenge, and it's fun. You feel really good after you finish playing one of their 20 minute "epics."

3) What was the last song you performed in front of a crowd (20 or more) and when?:
I accompanied my school's choir at a performance for a rousing rendition of You Can't Stop the Beat from the musical Hairspray! Whoop-dee-doo!

4) What is the largest crowd you have ever performed in front of?
I belive that that would be when I played at a great-grandfather's b-day party/family reunion. There were a few hundred people there, and I was only 9!

5) What's your next Project?
I used to be in a band, but now the other members are off to perform in a "power trio," I guess. So now I'm mainly accompaning a couple choirs at my school. They're all jazz choirs, so at least I get to play jazz! There's really no one at my school with enough instrument experience that likes prog rock or any of that, so sometimes I just record my own songs by myself on my Macintosh.

I'm actually a bassist by trade, but when I play alone, guitar usually accompanies vocals better.

1) How often do you play (Perform, not Practice) ?
Not often at all anymore. I used to play lots in high school. Now that I'm in university, I only play around 1-3 times a year.

2) What is your genre (what type of music do you perfer)?
For playing, I generally like to play any rock songs that sound good acoustically. So I play lots of Floyd, some Beatles, some Harrison, Petty, Wilburys, AiC and Jerry Cantrell solo stuff, and I know most of The Verve's and Oasis' catalog by heart as well as they translate beautifully to acoustic.

3) What was the last song you performed in front of a crowd (20 or more) and when?:
As a matter of fact I did an acoustic set last night at my university residence's coffee house. The attendance was only around 20 but here's what I played (in order)

"Pigs on the Wing, pt. 1" - Pink Floyd
"You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" - The Beatles
"The Last DJ" - Tom Petty
"D'Yer Wanna Be A Spaceman?" - Oasis
"The Nurse Who Loved Me" - Failure
"Heading for the Light" - Traveling Wilburys

4) What is the largest crowd you have ever performed in front of?
I played several songs in high school assemblies. Attendance would be around 1000 people.

5) What's your next Project?
I was in a band where I was the bassist/vocalist/songwriter and I'd like to start another band like that although there seems to be a lack of interest in classic rock sounding bands these days.

1) How often do you play (Perform, not Practice) ?

Once in a blue moon. I did piano recitals when I was a kid, but I've let that go by the wayside. In high school I had an a capella band called the BS Quintet and we did a few gigs here and there (for fun).

2) What is your genre (what type of music do you prefer)?

Anything goes. We did a capella renditions of classic rock, modern pop, r'n'b, a few old-school madrigals around Christmastime and a free-jazz freakout once. But all transported into smooth, funky barbershop harmony-laden style, mixed with hip-hop beatboxing/vocal scratching.

3) What was the last song you performed in front of a crowd (20 or more) and when?:

Our final performance as a group was "Brown Eyed Girl" with my old flame and confidante on lead vocals. This was in June of last year. It was very emotional, but I'm not sure how we sounded as I was completely out of my head with fatigue overcome by adrenaline. We were breaking up (the band, as well as me and my girlfriend) but everyone managed to come together, put aside their differences, and sing their hearts out one last time. A very good, maybe even magical, experience.

4) What is the largest crowd you have ever performed in front of?

Several hundred. The whole school basically, when we did an original number called "Chubby Bunny."

5) What's your next Project?

One of the former members of BSQ convinced me that we were going to get a new a capella group started with two other fellas at University, but we haven't done anything serious with it yet. I hope we get around to it, though. It's one of the best things I ever did at school.
