Performance Anxiety

This thread should spark some conversation or at the very least allow those of us who are musicians to reveal a bit more about ourselves.

I have a few question that I'd like to hear from the players on here about. I'll post the questions then answer them myself. Please follow suit and fill in your responses

1) How often do you play (Perform, not Practice) ?

I try to play out at least once a month. I have quite a few friends in bands and am able to sit in with them regularly. I am also in the process of putting together a new project with two friends.

2) What is your genre (what type of music do you perfer)?

I play Blues and Classic Rock most of the time (a lot of Floyd). I occasionaly get in a Jazzy mood, but more of the late 70's early 80's jazz fusion style (Pat Metheny, Jean-Luc Ponty, Al DiMeola)....

3) What was the last somg you performed in front of a crowd (20 or more) and when?:

Carl Perkins' Matchbox last Tuesday evening. If any of you have seen Paul McCartneys new DVD "Back in the U.S." you've got a pretty good idea of the rendition we did.

4) What is the largest crowd you have ever performed in front of?

It was at an outdoor 4th of July festival in the early 80's in Chicago. We were one of the openers, early on the bill, but there were about 5000 people hanging around....Cool.

5) What's your next Project?

I'm working on a three piece outfit with two friends. One is a percussionist (if you hit it, he plays it) and the other guy plays everything else (gtr, bs, kbd) I play guitar. It's all original material. The Floyd/Rush/Stones/Beatles influences are fairly obvious. We hope to have a CD out by September.

OK.....Your Turn

Re: Performance Anxiety

1) How often do you play (Perform, not Practice) ?

not as much as i'd like to. the town i live in has a terrible music scene. and the two guitarists and drummer live very far away from me. but maybe one day we'll all live closer

2) What is your genre (what type of music do you perfer)?

its hard for me to define bands. but i guess we play space rock or experimental stuff.

3) What was the last somg you performed in front of a crowd (20 or more) and when?:

we haven't got around to naming our songs. at the end of march.

4) What is the largest crowd you have ever performed in front of?

20-30. hopefully we can get some more in the future

5) What's your next Project?

i just have the one band so i guess we'll keep playing and recording.

Re: Performance Anxiety

1) How often do you play (Perform, not Practice) ?
I haven't played live in quite a while - nearly a year, I'd say. But I pratice playing either guitar or drums every day.

2) What is your genre (what type of music do you perfer)?
The type of music my current project plays is mainly hard metal rock. All we have right now is covers; these range from the Sex Pistols to Aphex Twin to the Ramones. Varied indeed.

3) What was the last somg you performed in front of a crowd (20 or more) and when?:
My last band that played live was a band that infused metal and jazz, so the last song we did was called 'Subfixation' and featured a five-minute free form jam in the end. I actually played a drum solo.

4) What is the largest crowd you have ever performed in front of?
Maybe 20 or 30. It impressed me, at least.

5) What's your next Project?
My brother's friend is coming down from the Marines in a couple days, and we're gonna record 15 songs in 2 1/2 days, all live. Fun.

Re: Performance Anxiety

Keyboards...not guitars.

1) How often do you preform?
I've only preformed twice, once for chirstmas (ugh...) and once in an assembly at our school.

2) What is your genre
I listen to prog rock, but I usually play classical, Chopain, Beethoven and the like.

3)The Last Song
The last song I played in front of people was in school, Moonlight Sinartra.

4) Largest crowd?
School, about 1200 or so.

5)Next project?
Project? I don't do projects... but i'm going to play at the next sports rally in our school.

Re: Performance Anxiety

Hey, I have a question for everyone.....

As I mentioned above my bandmates and I are working on a CD project this year. We have looked into studio time but it is expensive ($$$$$). Have any of you used any of the PC based "Recording Studio" programs out there. If so what do you like or dislike?

I've looked at a PC version of Cubase, didn't really get a feel for it. What have you guys used? Any suggestions?

Re: Performance Anxiety

We cover Come to Daddy. Crazy-like drums, guitar and bass playing the same riff in unison, some harmonics, and a very agressive vocal. Still, nowhere near the original, I'm afraid. Fun to play, though.

Re: Performance Anxiety

And Fulghum, try Cool Edit Pro. It's about $200, but I bootlegged it. Easy to do so, I must say.

Anyway, the program is easy to use. Good sound quality and plenty of effects. Very nice track layout. Up to 128 different tracks.

I love it.

Yeah, but do you have schoolgirls running around with your face on their bodies?

Re: Performance Anxiety

You're thinking of the groupies. And their job is to have their faces on your bodies.

Re: Performance Anxiety

Shane , if you ever do get to the point where you have schoolgirls running around (with or without your face on them) ....call me if you need an extra guitar.
