1. Dark side of the moon
Definitely their best album, great from the start to the end. I love how the songs flows in this album plus it has some of the best songs ever: Time, Brain Damage, Eclipse, Breathe...
2. The wall
It has some weak songs, but most of the songs are great, although there i'ts too much Waters. I like a lot how the electric guitars sound on this album.
3. Obscured By Clouds
I don't why but I like this album a lot, but Wot's uh the deal, Stay and The gold it's in the might be the main reasons.
4. Wish you were here
Wish you were here and Shine on you crazy diamond are 2 of my favourite Floyd songs. The other ones are great too.
5. Animals
I like how this album sounds in general, Dogs and Pigs (three different ones) are great!

Wow, this is a lot of thinking...

Keeping in mind I don't yet own Ummagumma, More, OBC, or the first two albums...(Saucerful will probably be in my top 5, but I've only heard two of its songs, LTBML and the immortal (IMO) Set The Controls...)

Honorable Mention: Meddle. A superb album. I absolutely love Fearless and Pillow Of Winds (loving Echoes is almost implied), but for whatever reason, I can't like it quite as much as TDB and AMLOR.
5. The Division Bell/AMLOR - I'm not a big fan of the first half of the album, but the second half is fabulous and beautiful to me. Depending on mood, AMLOR might be here instead. AMLOR is a dark album. I love dark albums. I need therapy.
4. The Wall - Sometimes, depending on my mood, this album takes a shot up to number 2. It's got good rockability as you guys said. "In The Flesh" is a not-so-common pick on my floyd greatest hits collection.
3. Animals - A rockin' good album. I'm your typical "Dogs" lover.
2. Wish You Were Here - An album to relax to. SOYCD and the title track have gotten tons of praise that I fully agree with, but I just love Have A Cigar. This is the only Floyd album where all the tracks have at least one person I've met that said it was their favorite Floyd track ever. Impressive.
1. Dark Side - What hasn't been said?

Top 5 right now, only because it fluctuates so much.

1. Animals- dogs could honestly be their best song. really truthfull messages conveyed throughout. I get high just listening to it. Why this album is so lowly regarded doesn't make sense to me, though i'm quote content with the respect for the album on this particular thread.I wish i could find a live DVD of animals.
2. wish u were here- first album i ever heard, brings back fond memories of my past.
3.the wall- masterpiece
4.darkside
5. final cut

My top 5 would be mainly bootlegs from the 1970 tour, but official release-wise they'd be:

1. Ummagumma- Madder than a box of frogs wearing lederhosen!
2. More- A fantastic chill-out record...
3. Dark side of the moon- Another great chill-out record
4. Meddle- I love it all- even Seamus
5. Obscured by Clouds- Vastly underrated

Also honourable mentions for Animals which is possibly superior to all my choices but too vitriolic for my tastes and Wish You Were Here- close but no cigar!
Now where did I put that bong....?

I could do a worst five, but I don't think I could do a best 5.

Floyd's Worst...

1. A Collection of Great Dance Songs
2. Final Cut
3. Ummagumma (studio version)
4......

Nope, I can't do that either.

My current favorite is OBC, but I just can't rate 'em in order. Every single one has its own appeal and special qualities for me. Even the ones I didn't like had stuff I'm glad I didn't miss.

The thing is, at least through the 70's, every single one was unique in music - no one had tried to do this kind of stuff before.

Let's go at this again as my opinion's morphed over the past months.

Honorable Mention: TDB, Animals
5. The Wall - It's great if you're in the mood, but it's certainly not a flexible record. It's a great big ditty by Roger and I like it, but...too much Roger.
4. Meddle - Meddle ish good. Took a while for San Tropez to grow on me, but once it did, it wouldn't go away. Really. I put up with it interrupting my thoughts for at least a week. Great album. Not a good album to listen to alone with an unpaid light bill. Kinda scary in places.
3. Obscured By Clouds - One of the most underrated albums I've ever heard, definitely. Songs that make you groove (The Gold It's In The...), songs that make you contemplate (Wots...uh the deal?), and songs that draw emotional response (Mudmen). It's very great, good to chill to, and contrary to Meddle, is listenable even in the darkest of areas.
2. Wish You Were Here - The immortality of SOYCD, the groove of Have A Cigar, the emotion of Welcome To The Machine, the sheer incredible song writing of the title track.
1. Dark Side - Amen.

Really, it can just be said I like the early 70s era...the Wall's the only one that isn't in that category. I find I like the early 70s the most in many cases with different bands, such as one Led Zeppelin.

1 - Dark Side Of The Moon - My first Pink Floyd album and by far the best no other album can stir up so many emotions go from happy to sad in the blink of an eye, a true masterpeice.

2 - Wish You Were Here - Gilmour's guitar work on this is increadable and the title track is my favourite song ever.

3 - The Wall - Well it had to be in here some where and however much people complain that it is Water's autbiography it is also an amazingly accomplished rock album perfect for the stadium events it condems.

4 - The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn - This album is too odd to have a reason for being so good it just is.

5 - Meddle - Echoes

Hmm...

Ok,

1) Dark Side of the Moon
-- Yea, I know, how predictable can you get, but the more I think about it the more I think it is the greatest album in Rock history. The pinnacle of studio production without sounding overproduced. The songwriting is fantastic, the guitars are better (I've said it before, I'll say it again, "Time" is the greatest guitar solo ever), and the chemistry between the guys is unparalleled. If I had to start my record collection all over again, this would be the first thing I'd buy.

2) Wish You Were Here
--Many think this is better than DSotM, and I can see why. This is the Floyd album for Floyd fans, combines everything we love about them. All of the songs are brilliant, and "Have A Cigar" is still some of the best commentary on the greed of the record companies.

3) The Wall
--Yes it's self-obsorbed, Yes it's over-the-top, but it's also brilliant. Could be the greatest "Rock Opera" ever. "The Trial" is just such a brilliant climax, gives me chills every time. Now if they had only exchanged"Vera" and "Bring the Boys Back Home" for "When The Tigers Broke Free" and "The Last Few Bricks", this could've been shoulder-to-shoulder with DSotM.

4) Animals
--I've loved this album for a long time. "Dogs" is up there with "Echoes" and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" as one of the great Floyd epics. It is one of the stand out Dave and Roger collaborations ever. It may not be the first Floyd album one buys, but it is certainly one of the most loved when it does enter your home.

5) Meddle
--I've only heard "Echoes", and that track alone gives Meddle the #5 spot. I don't think I'm alone in saying that "Echoes" is the pinnacle of Floyd creativity and chemistry. Probably the greatest Floyd song recorded.

I'm out.

-Dave
