David Gilmour In Concert Effects Anyone Know??

I want to know wich effect DG use on the first shine on you crazy diammond (track number one), to sustain the notes in the beggining.

It looked to me like Dave just had an effects pedal (for volume control) and footswitches (for selection) set up to run a synthesizer for those sustained Gm and Dm chords.

So, have you any idea how to make this effect using only standard pedals?

In order to get a good 'Gilmour-y' effect (I assume you mean the electric version) use a bit of chorus, a bit of compression, and distortion. On a strat type guitar, use the middle pickup.

No, I'm looking for the acoustic version, we could open a forum discussion aboud DG effects, I think it's one of the problems when you are trying to play any Pink Floyd song!

Probably the best way (off the top of my head) would be to use some compression.

Yes, but the question is:
How can I sustain the chord and make a solo without the sound of the chord ends, there's no way to play the solo and the chords togheter like dave do.

the way i do it:

my tools: two seperate amps (any kind will do), a few guitar chords (one 10', two 6', three 6" mini chords), a chord splitter to use both amps (radio shack 1 male/2 female adapter)(tell them what its for if you get lost), Boss Chorus + Boss Reverb + Boss delay (any name brand will do, but i highly recommend Boss) effects on one amp only, and a volume pedal (i use a Morley) for that same amp.

i plug the splitter into the guitar, and run one 10' chord from it to a single amp. then run a 6' chord from the splitter to my A)Chorus pedal, then a 6" chord from it to my B)Reverb, then another 6" chord from the Reverb to my C)Delay, then another 6" chord from the Delay to my D)Volume pedal. then its a 6' chord to my amp. its that easy haha. i tried. its easier to illustrate it:

anyway, one amp is just for standard playing, the other is for effects. i have my chorus+reverb+delay effects running on amp #2, and when i strum it, you can hear it through amp #1 as a standard chord, but when i lay the volume pedal forward, amp #2 comes in with the supplied effect sound. i have the delay set up so that it rings out for a good long while. all you have to do is turn your volume pedal back down to zero after you let your chord ring out a little after strumming it, so that any further playing wont come through the 'effects amp' (#2).

i hope that makes sense for ya. dave has some expensive crap up there, like that vintage tuner for example (i'd kill for that thing haha). if you need any help, email me and i'll guide you along.

Is the "vintage tuner" that box thing with a glowing circle in the middle (that sits almost exactly behind him). I've wondered what it is.

Why buy a vintage tuner? Surely, your guitar is either in tune, or not.

well a tuner isnt needed, but its always good to have one around. and that particular tuner is very rare and worth owning, in the least.

yeah thats it. its a really sweet tuner, and great to show off (as im sure thats what he was doing).
